For Mom

As some of you know, my mom moved into Memory Care at the beginning of this year.  It's not been an easy transition but she is safe.  She may not always recognize me but we always laugh together and our visits are filled with much love.

Thinking I wanted to take her something to dress up her room for the holidays, I knew that something with lights would not work.  She is light sensitive, always has been and even more so now, and always unplugs her clock etc.  Then I stumbled on this Tree Mini Quilt from Maker Valley and saw that they actually had a kit!  The kit arrived the week before Thanksgiving and thankfully with a lot of time spent at the sewing machine in the evenings I was able to deliver it to her on Thanksgiving Day.  What you can't see is that I also hung up a note telling her that I made it and who I was so if so if anyone was curious about it, she didn't have to go through the confusion of not knowing.  It's now back home with me (there was no time for a label) to label.  She enjoyed it and it made her happy!  That's all I wanted!  Love you mom!

So sorry you are going through this with your mom. We lost my mom due to Alzheimer’s 12 years ago and there is not a day that goes by that I don’t think of her. Enjoy the time that you have together.

Jackie, that’s awesome. Your mom looks very happy.

I’m sorry that you both have to go through this. It’s hard to see our parents aging and forgetting. Know that I’m thinking of you and that you have a big circle of friends who are, too!

It is always wonderful when we can make something that makes someone happy. This is clearly a special joy since it was for your mother.
Even though my mother still has her memory (although sometimes it drifts) It is difficult to watch as she declines.
Peace be with you.

Moving a parent to memory care isn't easy, I know, but the peace of knowing they are safe is priceless!! I am so glad you two are able to enjoy each other.

Oh, I love this sweet photo of your mom and her new wall hanging (which is just so perfect, Jackie!). I'm glad that she is in a safe and caring place and that she is still able to laugh with you when you visit. At this point in our memory-impaired parents' lives, a simple smile and laugh is so very welcome, isn't it? Hugs to you, my friend. This journey is not easy, but you are making the most of it for your dear mom. ♥

What a fun quilt, I just know she loves it. I am in the same boat as you are. Right now my mother is in assisted living but it won't be long til she has to be moved somewhere else. Much love your way and prayers. It truly isn't easy.

It's an awful thing for both parent and child to go through.

Your quilt is just lovely and I hope it continues to make your Mum happy. x

Jackie that quilted Christmas tree wall hanging is so perfect. I'm glad you brought it home with you and she can enjoy it next year. If she loved it maybe you can do a seasonal one she can enjoy next. When Jody's mom was in assisted - anything new we bought her "went missing" - even her teeth, eye glasses things like that "got lost". We suspect in some cases the staff took the nice new clothes we gave her. How sad but I'm afraid probably true. Hope 2020 is a great one for you! Mel

Dear Jackie Happy New Year! It is so good to be back in blogland again. I have missed all of my blogging friends so much.

I was so touched by your gorgeous quilt that you made your sweet Mom. We went through the same thing with my MIL and it is hard when memory is the issue. But, I think your idea for labeling the quilt is a very good one. Her smile says it all. Much love, RJ@stitchingfriendsforever
