Summer is Here!

Happy June!  Where has the year gone?!  The past couple of months, I've been busy but still have had time to do some of the things I love.

I pull out Ann Dale from deep hibernation and have stitched this bottom row on it.  I've also done a lot of border work (and re-work) which isn't shown here.  Ann is a lovely sampler - a BIG girl but so worth the time!
I also immediately ordered Elizabeth Atkinson from Sassy Jacks Stitchery as they had kits at a very affordable price with silks.  I chose the 46 count linen (SilkWeaver Golden Oats) option with the 100/3 you see on the spools below.  LOVE the colors in this one!
I started it too!  At first the 46 count was slow going but it has gotten much better!  I'm using a 28 needle and it feels a little big so I might need to go to something else(any suggestions?).  The colors in Elizabeth are fantastic.  The 100/3 is used as it comes off the spool and I'm enjoying not having to strand or put the remaining strands back away.  The little things!  I think this one is going to go fast because I'm so in love with it!
I've also felt the desire to sew a little bit.  All of my WIPs are on the more complicated/fiddly side so in an effort to flame that desire, I'm sewing charm squares together.  So far, it's been soothing and mindless and all the things you need when you haven't sewn in ages.
In personal news, my youngest son moved to Tallahassee 2 years ago and he moved back to Jacksonville Memorial Day weekend.  He's so happy to be back and we're happy that he's back in town too!  He lives about 15 minutes away and that makes this momma's heart happy!
I'm already ready for summer to be over.  Here in NE Florida we've already had record setting heat, 100 degree days, and one large fire that closed I-95 both ways.  The humidity is off the chart and I'm in full on hibernation mode!

I'll be back soon with more to share.  In the meantime, I hope all your stitches are happy ones!

You know I always love your stitching...and yes, I am sure you are real happy to have your son so close. I just had one move 3 hours away and that makes me happy compared to the 17 hours.

Ann Dale is looking super, Jackie. Love her colors! You are off to a good start with Elizabeth Atkinson as well. I know you are thrilled to have your youngest back in town. Stay cool, keep hydrated and be safe out there.

I guess your summers are like our winters up north, Jackie--time to stay comfortable inside and stitch! I can't believe how quickly this year is flying by either...

Lovely, lovely samplers you are creating and great to read you've gotten used to the 46 ct. I only tried it once (it was an evenweave) and struggled, but I would like to try it on linen.

Great to hear your youngest son is nearby again! With one of ours in San Diego and one in DC we are blessed to have the middle one only 25 minutes away in the city.

Have a wonderful, creative week ahead! ♥

Ann Dale - blast from our past - Looks great - I passed my chart to another member who was inspired by yours. I also ordered Eliz Atkinson but I opted for the safe 36ct, same color which I thought was lovely. I had a few silks but missing the bulk so I can't get started yet. I also broke down and ordered the Salt sampler but from the "other" store - who knows when I will get it. glad you could get in some fun sewing time. Glad your son is back and close ! Yes it's our hateful horrible hot season - just bunk in and stitch! Mel

Brave girl! 46 count... woah. It's looking fabulous, though! I wonder if a beading needle would work - the kind that is really thin to fit through those little glass seed beads:

I read on the John James Needles website that these needles are about the same length as your size 28 needle but are much thinner - 0.36 mm in diameter compared to the 0.53 mm diameter of the size 28 tapestry/cross-stitch needle. They are supposed to have a blunt tip similar to a tapestry needle.

Hi Jackie: I love charm square packs, I have many but have done nothing with them, you have inspired me to sew them together, I may just be making my first quilt that way.
Ann Dale is such a beautiful design, yes is is a big one but worth the stitch time, the new design looks like a beauty itself, I will be watching to see the progress.
Congratulations on your son moving back to town, the dog is adorable.
Cool days here in Minnesota 54 at 06:00.

Ok, I'm envious that your son moved back and lives 15 minutes away. Mine still lives 6 hours away and I miss him. Sigh. So I have to ask -- what are Hands Across the Sea charts like? Do they have symbols on the charts or are they just color coded? I've heard Scarlet Letter moved to color coded charts? I prefer symbols! I often wonder if I would still be able to see those tiny holes in the linen if I tried to stitch again! Anyway, love seeing all your projects. Such prettiness!

Oh Jackie your samplers are wonderful. Elizabeth Atkinson is pretty but I love Ann Dale. Until someone either is stitching them or shows them specifically you don't really notice them.
Good to hear your son has moved closer to you.

Ann and Elizabeth are both stunners!!! I never saw thread in spools like that before, a challenge to store the remmnants I'm sure. How nice your son is close by again. Oh, I just returned from 3 weeks in Florida and now I know how RJ gets so much stitching done. It's too darn hot for anything else!! Have a lovely Sunday.Mary@stitchingfriendsforever

Jackie as always you pick such gorgeous charts and then stitch them to perfection. I love both of your samplers. Total perfection!

So happy to hear your son is has returned to Jacksonville and is his near his sweet Mom. I would love my son to come nearby too. We just spent weeks in Texas with him and then on to Alabama to visit some Air Force friends. It was hot everywhere but not as bad as here. It has been so HOT and the humidity really gets me.
