A Bad Choice

I honestly expected to be showing you a completed quilt top today - my 2010 $5 Quilt. It's been laying over the chair in front of my design wall for a bit. It just needed borders. Today I ironed and trimmed it up. Greg helped me measure the width and length in 3 places. I measured and cut the inner border and sewed it to one side. And realized I had made a horrible fabric color choice. I need to use a fabric the same color as the sashing pieces - not the cornerstones like I had planned - to frame the quilt. Greg tried to convince me that it would be "fine". Well, we all know that to a woman "fine" it's generally anything BUT fine. I laid out the leftover sashing fabric next to the top and the difference was dramatic. I found the fabric I needed online and it should be here soon and I ripped that border off!

Here's the quilt where I left it. Right on my ironing board that needs a facelift. I can't believe I'm showing that ugly thing to you. I still have threads to clip but I just didn't have it in me.
$5 Quilt 2010 progress
I finished up the 4th block of Anniversaries of the Heart. Personalizations to come as with the rest of the blocks. This isn't a block that I think I'll have anyone to commemorate as we have a small family. I think I may stitch my maiden name in the lower right corner and the year completed in the upper left. I used the called for fibers except for the windows. There just wasn't enough contrast.
Anniversaries of the Heart
I'd like to wish my Canadian friends a Happy Thanksgiving and all of you happy stitches!

Oh Dear Jackie. I've been in the same place . It's a horrible sinking feeling isn't it?

We all know a man's "fine" and a woman's "fine"are not even close.

Let's hope the fabric arrives soon so you can show us the finish!

I hope you solve the problem but I truly don't see anything wrong with it....

What a pretty quilt! I can't wait to see it all finished.
Your BBD block looks great. I still haven't started any of these. I just can't decide if I want to stitch them separately or all on one piece!

I'm sure you'll be happier with the new fabric.....you'd always have been bothered if you'd let it go as being "fine" (as your hubby put it). I'll look forward to seeing it when it's done! It looks good so far, and you want to be totally happy with the rest of it, too.

Lovely quilt and your sashing color is so great, it will look great as a border.

The stitching is so pretty on your cross stitch. I have a holiday one that has been years in the works, I should get it out and make more progress.

Good progress Jackie! I really like your quilt.

The quilt looks gorgeous to me. Hope you're happy with your new fabric choice.

That's a pretty piece in the BBD series. They are all pretty actually!

Your quilt is beautiful. As a quilter, I know how frustrating it can be when things are not working out the way that you wish. Sometimes, tackling it another time with a fresh perspective and some new fabric makes all the difference. We stitchers are all perfectionists, aren't we? Hope it all works out.

Love your beautiful Anniversaries of the Heart piece. The verse is such a sweet sentiment.

Such a gorgeous quilt! I'm glad you decided on the fabric you think is best for the quilt -- I bet it will be worth the wait. It's wonderful though! I love your BBD finish too! So pretty!

Sorry you had to rip out what you did on the quilt, but I'm sure it will be worth it in the end. Just put it aside now and come back later, it always helps~

Your Anniversary piece looks really nice~~ I love the colors, so soft and pretty~

If you're only replacing sashing, that won't be too much work. Now if it was a pieced block on the inside, that would be something else! I need to do some unsewing too. Argh. I tried out an unusual block that I wanted to look modern and ended up with a combination of prints that look like mush. I'm so disappointed in my choices. For now I'm letting it rest. Maybe a fresh eye will give me fresh insight. Pleasant and patient unsewing wishes to you, until that new fabric arrives, girlfriend.

If something doesn't feel good, you should change it, just like you are going to! Too much work went into this quilt to not be satisfied about it!
Love you cute stitchery. Such sweet words.
Good luck with finishing the quilt!

That is so disappointing when that happens, but at least you decided it was wrong before you got all the borders on!

Your cross stitch looks great. I love the colours in it.

Oh Jackie, I understand. If you're not feeling that it's right you're never going to be content with it. It's going to be such a beauty this quilt. Hope the fabric arrives soon. Love your AoTH piece!

If you're not "feeling" it, Jackie, it would always have bothered you... Can't wait to see your finished quilt after the new border fabric arrives. It really is gorgeous. As is your Anniversaries of the Heart--love that little bunny :)

If something isn't right best to fix it while you can. Love the quilt on the ironing board (which btw I didn't even notice :o)

Love your AotH block.

I think it looks great, but I understand what you're saying. Love the stitchery as well.

The sashing color goes so great with the blocks, the borders should be just right. Is this a quilt top you bought for $5? What a find, if so. Going to be a wonderful addition to your collection of needlework.

Congrats on the BBD finish, it's lovely! And I'm sure you'll be very happy with your altered quilt once it's done.

Jackie your AoTH block is soooo sweet - LOVE your Little Women quilt - it is just stunning - love the color and placement - I'm sure you made the right decision to ditch your edging fabric and order more - better now than when it is completed. Hope you are enjoying the holiday. Mel

Oh, Men. (:D)

Nice finish on the AotH, too!

Okay.....I hate to sound like a MAN, but I think it looks great. Better than fine, actually. It must photograph really, really well. :-) Hope the new fabrics are exactly what you're looking for.

Border issues aside, the quilt is lovely. :)
I hope the new fabric works up quick and just like you envisioned.

Frustrating, but well worth it to get a fabric you'll like. Quilt looks great, btw, and so does your finished block!

I am sure your quilt will be just perfect when you have finished it, and all your trials and tribulations will be forgotten. I love the cross stitch, too - beautifully done.

Picking colours for a quilt must be tricky, to get the colours and balance just right!

That's a lovely stitch! I don't have a large family either. Sometimes I wonder if I'm missiong out on something great... do you feel that way?

Michele said... 32

Did you get the new one put on yet? It certainly is a frustrating feeling to realize it's not going to go like you planned it. Did I read in a comment on another blog that you ordered Farmer's Wife? I just saw that at the new shop.

The quilt is looking good. Glad you didn't settle of just okay...you want it perfect!

Awesome Anniversarys block!

Who is looking at your ironing board when we have that beauty to look at? It is good that you stood yourself firm and now ordered the fabric that you feel you need to complete this beauty. I am looking forward to seeing it completed. Are you hand or machine quilting it?

Hugs from Holland ~
