I Might End Up With a Sweater!

The sweater progress is coming along. I'm slow but what else is new? This sweater is knit from the top down in one piece. I've gotten just past the point where you put the stitches for the sleeves on waste yarn and join underneath the armholes. The part I'm really not liking about this project is that you have to keep trying it on to make sure it fits. To do that, all the stitches go on waste yarn so the stitches don't slip off the needles. Then you try it on. Then you have to put it all back on the needles. If I was small, I could just leave it on the needles. But I'm not. What a pain!
I played with the color a bit so you can see the cables that go on either side of the button band. It will need to be blocked out so it looks right but you can get an idea here.
I think my goal this year is to start as many new projects as I can without finishing anything. Here is the fabric for the next WIP. The bottom fabric is the backing and the background is on top of that. The fabric with the little diamonds I'm hoping to use as binding. More on this later!
Thank all of you so much for your comments on how to organize my over dyed thread. I think I'm going to organize by maker and then by color name. I'm not looking forward to the actual process but I am looking forward to it being done. This morning I shoved everything into a cubby hole to clear off my sewing table. I must deal with that this weekend. Otherwise, it's the beginning of the end of being organized! Ruh oh!

My favorite line of the post... "I think my goal this year is to start as many new projects as I can without finishing anything." I laughed out loud. Jackie, you crack me up! BTW, the sweater is beautiful so far.

Oh my -- beautiful sweater! Too bad about having to try it on all the time with the waste yarn. That must be a pain! Love those fabrics! Can't wait to see what they become! I agree on that line -- starting as many new projects without finishing. lol! I know that feeling!

I must agree with Trisha , that line was so funny and fits me to a big ole fat "T"! The knitting is great. Cable work is very great looking but I lose my place so easily! :(

I could "hear" you say that line too, and I thought...oh boy, THAT is her April Fools on us?

Oh, your sweater looks so nice already. A beautiful project. And I'm so very curious to see how you use the fabrics and what your new quilting project will look like.
I *LOVE* your goal this year!!! Lol.

Love the sweater you are making and the color you used. Great fabrics for a WIP and good luck with organizing those threads this weekend.
Vrolijk Paasfeest!

At least you have an obtainable goal!

The sweater is looking great. I find it hard to knit a sweater once the weather warms up, especially if I had to do all the work you do for trying it on at regular intervals. But it looks like it will be worth the effort.

Your sweater will be beautiful! I wouldn't worry at all about how long it takes. Quality not quantity, right? I love the fabric you picked, and I can't wait to see the project! Have a wonderful weekend!

I definitely like your saying that you thought your goal this year was to start as many new projects as you could without finishing them! LOL A girl after my own heart! That really made me smile.

Your sweater is beautiful. I have heard of knitting from the top down, but never a sweater that was so pretty!! I really like it, but it sounds like a real hassle to get it fitted right.

And I love your fabric - definite eye candy. That color combination is one of my favorites.

Your knitting looks great, Jackie! And the colors in your next project are so intriguing--can't wait to see it come together.

Good luck with your thread organizing! I spent most of yesterday organizing my 454 colors of DMC from my big win and my back is killing me today...

Your sweater is really lovely! I've got a top-down sweater wip somewhere...

Happy Easter!

I can't wait to see what you do with that fabric. It's so rich looking!

One way to try a sweater like that on is to knit half of it onto an extra needle of the same size (if you have one) That way you don't waste all that time stringing it!

Your sweater is turning out wonderfully! Love the cable band - it's perfect. I missed your previous post - the Q&Q is looking so good and what a haul of overdyed threads you got from OGC - I wished I could have picked up some but I was too busy filling in my chart collection.
The quilting fabric is yummy - can't wait to see what lovliness you create with that. Happy Happy Easter - Mel

LOVE your sweater! It's gorgeous and I can't wait to see it finished. I wish I had the nerve to start a sweater project like yours. I've got a really simple one on the needles now. Your fabrics are lovely too...you must be in a brown "mood."
