Progress!

I finished my Falling Water Scarf! This has been almost exclusively a lunch time project. This is steamed blocked and I'm not happy with the results so it'll be blocked again.

Pattern: Falling Water (Ravelyr Link)
Yarn: Malabrigo Worsted Merino
Needles: Size 8
Last Wednesday at my quilting class, the instructor and I went over how I could improve how my points (is that the right term?) are matching up. In my prior post you could see the worst mismatched block in the lower left hand corner. The class went over the techniques I could use to fix it (I had gotten a bit ahead and was only to have my rows sewn; not the whole thing). Turns out I had one block that was cut a big larger than it should have been. So I went back and fixed this block and the one next to it. Looks SO much better. I'm learning loads with this class. I need to be more careful to square up my blocks and I learned how I can ease the fabric to make it match. I also hadn't pinned along the way and will never skip that step again!

I've signed up for another class. This one will either make me get my points correct or it's going to kick me in the rear big time! It's bunches and bunches of tiny blocks that HAVE to line up.

Beautiful results. I think the scarf looks great. The yarn has a nice texture.

Love the scarf. Came across your blog via JustUsQuilters. Thought I would browse around and see what other quilters are up to. I have always wanted to learn how it knit, I do crochet pretty well, at least I am able to follow the patterns. Seeing all you pretty things makes me what to learn knitting even more.

I like the scarf too, especially the color. Good luck with the quilting class. I love quilts, but have found that I have zero talent with woven fabric. I have an unfinished quilt top that's been sitting for years. I really appreciate the work that goes into a quilt.

Thanks for your comment. That is actually my daughter in the pic not me... she is always willing to be a model.

I love the scarf. I have the utmost respect for quilters. It just seems like too much precision sewing for me to ever get anything right.

Hey, thanks for coming by my blog, I'm glad the FMQ dvd's may be of help on your journey to great quilting...

If I may be so bold as to say, that as you progress with your piecing you will be able to skip the pinning part, but like everything, you gotta start at the beginning -- oh and I do not agree with the idea of 'easing' to fit because if you do that it will make the quilting more difficult, you will have ripples in your quilt that become quilted in wrinkles and that is not pretty. Make sure you cut accurately to avoid easing... Another tip, when you sew intersecting seams one should lay one way and the other opposite so that they sort of nest beside each other, you can't do that if your seams are open, if they lay opposite directions they will automatically settle so that as you sew that cross seam they will usually not slip and make a perfect connection. hope all that sorta made sense....
