A Different Kind of Challenge for 2011

I'm facing another challenge in 2011 - significantly more business travel. Something I battle while traveling is food. I eat too much and the foods that are available are typically more processed than what I generally eat. I'm going to really work on this. My other challenge? I always seem to overpack. I am determined to not check a bag for a 2-3 night trip. Todays trip is 2 nights. Here's my bag that I'm carrying on. I hope it will be allowed.

Ugh! This bag looks 9 months pregnant!

This is really hard for me. Hopefully I'll have a nice TSA agent who won't want to flash my personal items to the world. Hmmmm....I need to check to make sure my unmentionables aren't packed on top just in case!

Let's hope I can hoist this baby into the overhead bin.

I hope you all are having a great week. Happy Stitches!

I wouldn't do well with so much travel. I'm a home body.

Those are both problems that every business traveler, particularly female ones, have to battle.
Good luck and travel safe.

I used to travel a lot for business, but it was always for a week or two at a time and I typically over packed and never could carry a bag on. It was such a hassle. Now with the new TSA rules, etc I am so glad I don't travel much and I so hear you about the eating situation. Have you tried taking some really high in protein bars or a shake you can mix with water to have to save on a meal or two? That always helped me out and lots of water and crystal light packets to add to it. Just a thought, good luck!!

I was very proud of myself when I packed everything I would need for a whole month in one carry on bag when our granddaughter was born. But, I was staying at my daughter's house and had access to her washer and dryer. I also had left toiletry items at her house the time before. And, it was summer time in the desert so I packed a few lightweight tshirts and some capris........
Good luck with your goals....

Hi Jackie, good luch with your next travel :-))
I spent all my professional life travelling around the world by plane and I must admit that I learned many interesting things although I was sometimes very tired of this curious life....
Happy new year 2011,
Isa

I'll be interested to know what happens. I have a friend who tells me that if the bag is too big when you are going to board the plane, they take it and stow it someplace IN the cabin of the plane, but just not in the overhead compartment. I don't know if it then makes it more time-consuming for you to retrieve it, but it certainly would be easier than going down to baggage claim. Be sure to update us.

I hope the business travel isn't too stressful on you. My hubby has been doing a lot more business travel too. We both hate it. lol! Of course, he's really good at not taking too much along. He's a man.

Safe travels Jackie! I overpack too...I like options! It's so hard to pack light. Good luck to you. It's hard eating healthy too when traveling but I think restaurants have gotten better about having healthier options nowadays. It's still hard though!

I'm sorry to know you have to travel so much. Sounds like handwork will be in order. Piecing? Knitting? I hope you squeeze in Jackie-time on every trip.

Good luck for the New Year. It's hard not to eat, hard not to over pack. I can't imagaine a job where I have to travel. I'm a home body unless I am driving across country with my DH.

Good luck with your trip and your baggage Jackie! Hopefully your bag will make it through. I had my unmentionables flashed when I went to Utah because I was overweight. Luckily I had a big bag folded up in my purse so I could fit my purse and whatever they made me take out into that bad since you're allowed two carryons. I was embarrassed though!

Gosh, I remember when traveling and/or flying was fun! Now it's a chore to be endured. I give you a great deal of credit for being able to take a carry on...I've never been able to manage it. I think the key is wearing only one color your entire trip. Then, it's easy to mix and match up outfits! Good luck.

Challenges is right! And you can do it, Jackie...we always take too much stuff with us. Looks good and admire you. Take care and have safe and productive trips this year.

I always bring too much with me, too. And now with the new regulations not allowing any liquids in carry on, I have to check my bags almost everytime due to by contact lenses solutions and lotions and stuff!! Cutting back is so hard to do!!! Have a safe trip and good luck with the bag!!

So, how did it go?
Hope you had a good trip and were able to resist all the goodness ... very very difficult (for me that is).
Great job on your suitcase! Love that challenge. I don't think someone else has that one (o:

Hope you didn't have to open your bag at the airport! They are very strict here about hand luggage now. Safe travels.

Good luck with the travel. I hope you get to go to some interesting places.

Looks like DH will be on that same "travel boat" with you this year. Good thing he enjoys seeing new places.

Have fun on your trip. I can't imagine dieting while away from home. The change in routine, not to mention just the stress of airline travel, would use up all my willpower. I am hoping many healthy options pop into your view when you need them most.

Great goals for the year! And it is so hard to not overeat/eat poorly when you're traveling, but you can make a change!!

Krispian said... 27

Good luck with your travels. The key to cut over packing. When you come back see what you did not use or wear, which we shall call surplus. Then for your next trip remove two thirds of the surplus and see how that works out.

On the food front. Have a starter instead of a dessert (very easy in theory, but hard in practice). Enjoy an alcholic drink on your first or last night.

Remember have fun!

Now this is a real challenge, Jackie. I have never travelled for business reasons so I don't know anything about it. But I have often travelled with groups of students doing study trips and such. And I think the requirements are a bit different in this field as you don't have to pack business clothes and such.
Anyway, I wish you all the best for your future trips.

I hope you were able to stash some handwork in that bag. In my past, I had a job where I traveled Monday - Friday, I feel your pain.
