This weekend was spent doing a variety of stuff around the house. Not one single stitch in a quilting or stitching project. I did get to knit a bit Saturday and my sweater is coming along. Late last weekend I finished this applique block for my $5 quilt. I'm enjoying the applique and I like the pieced background. Between the two it takes a lot of time though.
Earlier this week I also finished a page of my chart for Quakers and Quilts.
Today my parents and sister came up and we celebrated Chris's birthday. He wanted to cook his own birthday dinner. I bought a whole beef tenderloin from Costco and he trimmed it up and cut it into filets and grilled it. I have to say, was the BEST steak I've ever eaten. Much better than Morton or Ruths Chris. He also served roasted fresh asparagus wrapped in bacon, grilled sweet potatoes and corn. I made the birthday cake (which I had to make twice) and salad. I also neglected to take any photos. We had a great time and it was great to spend time with family.

I'm gearing up for a girls weekend! More on that later....for now let's just say I'm excited!

Your $5 blocks are great, I am not very patient with applique!! I love the sampler you are stitching. I need to get mine out again and work on it.

Happy birthday to Chris! He must enjoy cooking if he wanted to cook his own birthday dinner! :D I love your applique block -- the pieced background just adds that special something! Is it machine applique again? Can't wait to hear about your girl's weekend!

Your block looks great Jackie. Watching your progress on these $5 blocks is really giving me a hankering for some applique!!

And your sampler looks great too.

I think that Costco meat is better than you can get in any restaurant (and a lot cheaper too). My husband practically lives in that place on the weekends.

I love your block and it's unusual to see the applique over the piecing which really makes it special. You are doing a beautiful job on your blocks and your sampler.

Your projects are looking great! Sounds like it was a good birthday. You had to make the birthday cake twice? Sounds like there's a story behind this.

That is a gorgeous block, Jackie! It's my favorite of the ones you've shared with us. Lots of work maybe, but you can be sure I think it's worth it.

I'll take your word about the beef thing. Beef is a meat I have completely lost my taste for; I'm not sure why. Glad you enjoyed it.
