Mail Call

This past week brought the mail man back to my house with a gift from Simone de Klerk from the Netherlands. She made me this sweet sewing mat! I had not realized how handy it would be to have a thread catcher exactly where you need one! Excuse the poor quality of my photos as they were taken at night. Also, make sure you check out Simone's blog. She is a very talented quilter and stitcher.
I love this!
I've not seen many sewing mats but I love the way Simone made this all one piece. The no slip part is sewn right in.
Simone, thank you so much! I'll think of you every time I sew!

I also received my Quilts for Kids kit. As you can see, the kit comes with the fabric cut out as much as it can be at this point. Some sub-cutting will be required later. All of the fabric is included along with the pattern. This is a wonderful charitable organization. If you're interested, you can request a kit here.
I hope you all have a great week. Happy Stitches!

What a lovely and useful gift you got from far far away - that is always so cool. I did not get to comment on the dyeing experience - LOVE your yarn - I bet that was fun - maybe next time I can participate although you know how "unmessy" I like to be - not sure this dyeing thing is for me - I think my mantra is still buying not dyeing ! See you soon Mel

I just went and signed up for a kit. I am excited. Thanks for sharing and adding a link. The website says to send some of your own quilts back with the finished kit so I am off to design some kids quilts.

Hi Jackie,
I love that mat/thread catcher! That is so cute and so useful. :) What a nice gift. I am going to bookmark that quilts for kids site. While I am not a quilter, my mom is, and I think this may be something she would enjoy. What a neat organization! Take a picture of your quilt and show it to us when you finish. The fabrics are so bright and fun.

lucky you Jackie, what a nice gift. I see some of the girls I sew with have these mats for under their sewing machines and they are a whole row of pockets hanging off the front, very practical gift, yours however has the non-slip on the back, great gift!!
