My $5 Quilt BOM has accessory blocks that are appliqued. I've just learned this technique and these pieces are much smaller than the applique on my Stitchers Garden BOM. I decided to try a practice run with red thread to show where I need to improve. I started out really wobbly but soon got a bit better at manipulating those smaller pieces with my hands.
Here's my finished block on a pieced background. I really enjoyed this but it took loads of time. Loads. It gives me a much bigger appreciation for those quilts that are full of applique. I do see more of this in my future.
I'm in the mortgage business. It's the month end in a short month. Let's just say it's been complete chaos. Far worse that I've had in a long time. But I'm making it and that's all that matters. It's not killing me either. I hope you're having a great week. Happy Stitches!

Oh wow! That is so pretty! So you just have the bare edges of each piece? No having to turn under a seam allowance? I need a new sewing machine! lol!
Very Pretty ! I love the look of applique but I don't enjoy doing it even with my machine. It is very labor intensive.
Nicely done! You must keep machine quilting in your future, for doing it so well. Sorry to hear about the work thing. I hope the turmoil ends quickly.
this is gorgeous, I love your scrappy background and the applique colours it's so pretty right up my alley :)

I love that block, it looks great. Is every block going to be appliques the same?
I love it....I just love applique but sometime can not sit still long enough. Great job!!
that is beautiful.....love it
That is such a pretty block! I love the pieced background.
what a great feature to have on a sewing machine. The stitches come out so even. You did a great job.
Your applique block is very pretty!
You are mastering that machine more and more!!! You continue to amaze me. I know you are tired of hearing that from me, but it's true! Your applique looks sooooo goooddd!!!
Work! Ugh!
Your block is beautiful Jackie!!! I know what you mean about the applique being time consuming. But the results are so worth it!! Did you think about using the blind hem applique technique. It doesn't seem to take as much time, but you don't get the great finish like you have.
Beautiful work on the applique. I have a BOM that I am doing too with half of the blocks in applique. I am no good on my machine so I have opted to hand sew them. Hope you have a great day at work!
Very impressive block, Jackie! I can't imagine doing that on a machine--my eyes just aren't good enough...
Hang in there with work--March will be here on Monday!
Love your applique piece. I am not real good with the blanket stitch yet it is those corners that get me everytime but your doing so well. I love to read your posts. Have a good weekend stay warm! Hugs,Marie
Well our work week is almost over and some fun to be had this weekend right? I LOVE your applique block Jackie - you did a marvelous job and I love the look and the fabrics. I am anxious to try that hand applique with the buttonhole stitch on the edge. Of course I will do mine by hand. TGIF Mel
Jackie ~ I am totally impressed! Fantastic work!!!

The finished block turned out great! I do admire your patience for this work.
Wow, love it!!
Your applique looks great! Like everyone is saying...the pieced background is fun. Much better than a plain and boring piece of fabric.
Wow! The applique block looks so so pretty. And perfect.
Beautiful, beautiful block. Yes, applique does take a lot of time, but it's just gorgeous when you are done! Good job!
Your machine applique is awesome! I try and try and never can seem to get my edges and corners right. You have it down, gf!! I need to practice, practice, practice, as they say. Thanks for sharing your lovely work! HUGS
