With the holidays fast approaching, Greg has had little time to work on putting together the Ikea stuff for my sewing room. But he has had some time. I'm keeping the existing corner unit that was part of the closet organizer and we've added an Expedit bookcase with drawers and a couple of doors. This went together pretty easily and quickly.
Then we played around with room layouts. I want to have a stitching and knitting chair in the room. One day I plan to have a wall mounted TV in here and I'd like to knit or stitch and watch tv. My original plan wasn't working with the amount of counter space I wanted, so we regrouped and came up with this. The wooden table top to the left is going to be my cutting table.
This shows the corner where I hope my chair will go. The table frame represents where I'll have my ironing board when I need it. Otherwise it will be in the closet. I'm a slow sewer so it will probably be in the closet more often than not. If adding a chair doesn't work, I'll rearrange the counter space back to my original plan. Greg isn't going to put up the 2 wall cabinets and shelving until I get it all figured out which will be after I spend some time in the room.
Lots and lots and lots of assembly. Hopefully it will be done by the New Year and I'll be organized and sewing! It's a small space but I hope to use it well and get a lot of use out of it.In the meantime, it's the mad dash to the holiday finish line. Greg mailed packages yesterday and once I get an online purchase delivered (hopefully tomorrow!) we'll have more. Most of my Christmas cards have been sent. I still have loads of shopping to do for Greg , my sister and my parents. Tonight I purchased gifts for the people who work for me that are out of town. I'm going to finish wrapping them and hope to get them FedEx'd out tomorrow. I do have 3 more that are in the same location that I am to buy for but they will all be here next week. Menu planning - hasn't happened yet. And there is stuff all over the place. Whew! I'm tired already. I seem to be in this same position every year and somehow manage to get it done. Or at least I get enough of it done. I'm hoping that this year will be the same! Fingers crossed!

My sewing space is tinier and it serves me well enough. (Due to its size, I cut fabric elsewhere...on the kitchen island, actually), but otherwise, I use the small bedroom that is the grandkids' room when they visit. I do have to transform it OUT of being a sewing room when they visit, but they don't come here that often. I am just now getting caught up with Christmas "stuff". Daughter and her hubby and family were to come this weekend, but now plans have changed due to their work schedules, so we will go there just for the day on Saturday. (So...I don't have to break the sewing room down for this weekend, so that is one good thing...although I was looking forward to the grandkids being here. OH, well....)
It all looks like a happy mess to me! What fun getting it all figured out - just so - and then moving in. You'll have a great time, I'm sure. Enjoy it all. Thanks for sharing your room ideas with us.
You're moving along nicely on the room, Jackie! Wow, a room of your own to craft in--I love the idea of the wall mounted TV. Put a little Judge Judy on the boob tube and I'd never leave. ;)
Good luck with all the holiday prep. I still have cards to mail out and gifts to buy. eek.
oh how nice that new room is going to be, can't wait to see it finished.....
Looks like things are moving right along! Enjoy the process and think of all the wonderful things you will create once it's all in place.
Holiday prep? What holiday prep???? Dang it, it sneaks up every year! lol I'm actually having a hard time this year since moving to Florida. I keep thinking, "why do they have all this Christmas stuff out in the summer?" We'll get it all done; don't we always?
OOOOH I have IKEA envy. I see you purchased the 16 drawer cabinet that has been on my list for years. I saved enough to buy it but decided to get a sewing machine instead. Maybe next year....Enjoy your new space. :)
Oh, I am so jealous that you will have your very own craft room. My stuff is currently spread out over three room--my family room, the den, and middle son's room. At least I get my exercise running back and forth to get my needed supplies! Can't wait to see it all finished up, Jackie--it will be great!
*sigh* You're so organized. This would explain why my sewing room looks so bad.
Well, that and the fact that I'm a total slob...
Wow! I'm predicting you're going to spend a lot of time in that room. Oh, and I'm betting the ironing board will never be taken down!!!
Enjoy!
Glad to see that your sewing room is progressing so nicely!

I love how your room is coming together! I think I should clean mine out so it can look fresh and new again. As for putting the ironing board way, I wish I didn't keep mine piled with stuff when not in use. Too funny how things accumulate there. Congrats on having so much of your holiday prep done, and the rest sounds very organized.
How exciting to have your own room. I just put one together and even though I get cramped sometimes (i.e., with ironing board, etc.), it works well. I ended up getting one of those small table top ironing boards and put in on my cutting area when I want to iron. Seems to work. Hope that you get everything put together in time to start off the new year!
I am so jealous and can't wait to see it finished.
Oooo, I'll bet you are giddy with excitement about getting closer on the room! I can't wait to see it all finished!
It looks like a good layout for the room size! Of course I'm looking forward to watching it grow and seeing it finished :)
Your sewing room is going to be awesome when it's finished. I wish I had taken more time to plan mine out when I turned it into my sewing space. I have to share it with a space for guests to sleep.
WOW Jackie - your room is going to be gorgeous and so functional and with a TV too - Now I'm jealous and also makes me feel inept in planning my room - it is such a mess - stuff everywhere but I'm working towards the ulimate goal of seperating my sale yarn and then being able to better organize my "stash" yarn and needlework supplies. The rug hooking stuff is well contained in the primitive cabinet - Have fun with your space Mel
How amazing your room is going to be! I want one!! Can't wait to see what layout you end up with. It is going to be great.
Your room is coming along so pretty Jackie!
I wish you a very happy holiday season!

That room is coming along nicely...you'll have it up and organized before too long!
I, on the other hand, have lost the drive to finish my room...maybe after Christmas??!!
HAPPY STITCHIN'
Terri
Your sewing room is coming along pretty well.
Have a happy weekend.
Now this is really becoming a wonderful place to be Jackie! You will get so much done, being able to just leave your things there!
I look forward to the finish!!!
Wow, you've been busy! That room is going to be so great when it's done. I'm jealous :) Well, enjoy it! The color is beautiful too!
