Next Quilting/Sewing Project

This is my next quilting and sewing project. What is this you ask? A big ole' pile of mess! Prior to the holiday, I had packed everything up (I sew in my dining room) and shoved everything in our closet. Yesterday G and I cleaned out said closet and it's all back sitting on the dining room table. So my next project is some type of organization! I'm going to cut and sort all my scraps using a version of Bonnie Hunter's system. I have ordered some Protect N Store containers to help. I'm finding a way to organize all my notions and WIPs (only 2 at this point but hey, it's time for a plan before it gets really crazy). I'm bound and determined to start 2009 with a neater, cleaner way to sew and quilt. Not sure how my plan will work long term, but I am going to try!If any reader has any tips or ideas they would be greatly appreciated! I need all the help I can get!

Hi Jackie,
I think you're on the right track, I put quilting projects in inexpensive boxes I get at Walmart and store all the fabric together with the pattern or with a note as to the pattern I want to use. I have a big laundry basket I put all my scraps in. Sometimes if it gets to be to much and I've got to much on my plate, I donate my scraps to organizations making quilts for kids or service people because they will go to good use and make someone warm and happy, and it cuts down on my guilt for not using them or having the time to use them. Good luck with your organization!!

Containers, containers, containers.... And keep all items that are a like in each, and one container for the project you are working on. Good luck. Can't wait to see what you make.

Good luck with your organizating. I find I can get so much more done and enjoy the process when things are neat and I can find them. I do have what I call project boxes where I keep all the fabrics, patterns, threads, etc for a specific project together. This way I don't accidently use it on a different project.

I have the same Kenmore!... but I cannot offer any advice on organizing as I am lost in that department..the more open space, the more trouble I get into.

it would be nice if you had something on rollers that could come out and go back into a closet. and you could stack the see-through containers on the roller-thingy and then be organized like that. hmm.

hope you're having a great holidays. thanks for visiting my blog. though you didn't win scraps this week, try again on saturday, i'll be doing another giveaway (still have a mountain of scraps!)

OH, this looks SOOOOOOO like me. I started cleaning up a few weeks ago and bought plastic boxes with a lid on them. One box is for new fabrics, one box for patterns, one box for batting (and I have another one op stairs), one box for threads, etc. etc. The boxes are different sizes, but all from the same 'brand'. Good good luck. If you come up with any other good ideas, please let us know!

My suggestion would be containers too. But I have more of a yarn stash than fabric currently. ;)
