Yes, I Did!

I previously blogged about my 19 projects in progress.  Wow, that was in February.  Since then, I've been experiencing something of a slump.  It really doesn't make sense but it is what it is.  I decided it was time to bring one of the 19 to a close.  I had been working on this little project out of HSTs that finish at 1".  Do you ever have one of those projects that you just seem to slog through?  That you really never love?  Well, this was one of those projects for me.  And it clearly showed in my workmanship.  So, guess what I did?

Oh yes I did, I trashed it.

Now before anyone says I could give it away or use the fabric for something else.  It's ugly.  The fabric waste is very minimal (it was a scrap project).   It finishes at 12" square and would not keep someone warm or something like that.  If you've read my blog for very long, I don't mind making mistakes.  I love to learn.  It's not that I made mistakes.  It would make me feel bad to give it away it's so awful.  I don't want to look at it in my home.  I'm very happy with where it is currently and it will stay there!

Lesson Learned:  It's perfectly ok to let some projects go!

Hoping all your stitches (and mine) are happy ones!

It is definitely ok to let some things go. I've had a few of them myself and it's been a sense of relief to tell myself that I didn't need to finish it!

Sometimes you need to throw a project away so that your mojo comes back and you can move on.

Good for you. If you don't love it, get rid of it is what I think.

Feels good to unload that kind of thing. Can be hard to do sometimes, but who needs an extra albatross around their neck? Good for you and on to something fun!

Good for you! I've done the same thing before and never felt a bit of guilt about it!

Not only is it perfectly ok to trash (yeah, I said it!) a project but it's smart too! Life is too short to spend time on projects that don't bring joy to the person making it or receiving it.

Good for you, Jackie. I don't have the bravery to do that. I need to learn from you!

I promise not to call the "quilt or sewing" police. Sometimes we need to just let it go. I find that projects like that just end up taking up space. Now you have room for something else that you want to do.

Learning is the important part of crafting, and that not everything has to be perfect, or even be finished. Call it a sample piece. That makes it so much easier to toss out.

Congrats on being able to let it go. There is so much of ourselves (time, money , ideas, hopes) in the things we make; it is hard to let go.

Good for you to let go and move on. I did a lot of that when I re-organized my sewing room and it felt so good. Hugs!!

I have one of those projects!! It's all done but the quilting and binding - but I HATE it and would be embarrassed even to give it to the Goodwill! I love that you trashed yours and am thinking maybe it would be okay for me toss mine too. Otherwise it's just going to sit in the corner making faces at me. Thanks for freeing me from this terrible project. LOL

I totally approve! Almost.... you could put it in a bag of fabric scraps and then donate the scraps. I give mine to a group that uses the fabric bits as stuffing for dog beds they make. Still. Hurrah for having 18 UFOs now!

When you feel free now and ready for more things that you really love doing, then it was OK. Sometimes it just is like that.

Hello

Just foubd your blog.

Yes I sometimes get sick of a project especially if I keep making mistakes. I have thrown projects away too.

Your stitching is beautiful.

Sammy is just adorable. he is such lovely colours and looks like he has a little grey chin beard.
Happy weekend (:

I don't blame you one bit. Once a project is dogged with bad karma, so to speak, you almost never shake it off. If you tried to finish it every little thing that was less than perfect about it would be magnified and it would just keep piling on and on. It's okay to move on. :)

wow - that took courage Jackie - I'm glad you were libertated by dumping this unhappy project - You have so many beautiful things in progress which do make you happy - YGG - Mel

I've done that a few times myself, Jackie so I know what a relief it is to not have the questionable project hanging over your head any more. Life is too short to waste on creating things that don't really make us smile :)

Letting go is not easy...it takes courage. I rarely have that courage and admire you for doing it.

I just saw Sammy. He is beautiful! Hope you can keep him. Yes...I am a cat person as you know and he will add to your life in ways you can never imagine.

Hugs from Holland ~

Sometimes it just relieves the guilt of hanging onto projects that you just know you will NEVER want to finish. Then, you can take a great big sigh of relief, smile, and say to yourself, "oh, that feels so good! Now I can concentrate on the things that I really LOVE to do!"

Blessings for a wonderful week!

Good for you! I have also done this and received those comments you mentioned. For some twisted reason it is VERY freeing to scrap a piece once in a while.
As somewhat of a perfectionist I have learned to let go a little with a few of those mistakes. It's what makes it mine, ya know?
Have a wonderful week.
