Spending Time with My Needles!

Things are actually moving along in the world of the needle!  A couple of weeks ago Greg and I went on vacation and I finished another block on Shores of Hawk Run Hollow.  I was happy about that!

No ironing - otherwise this post would not have happened!

I've also been sewing!  I took out this old WIP (I refuse to call something a UFO for some reason) and have been working on it.  As I previously talked about, I'm making this one work with what I have on hand.  Since I started this early in my quilting "career", it's less than perfect.  I've made some adjustments and it's now smaller at 9 blocks vs. the 12 originally intended.  Would I put these fabrics together today?  Probably not. There are some 30's fabrics in there along with some Kaffe and a Tula Pink plus some other odd fabrics.   The quilt is from Egg Money Quilts by Eleanor Burns.  Excellent step by step instructions.  Some say you don't even need to read the words to understand what to do.

I'm going to try quilting this one myself.  I have some vague ideas of what I'm going to do on most of the blocks but need to figure out the sashing and cornerstones (not shown).  I'm not going to get better if I don't start doing it and I thought this would be a good quilt to start on!

It feels good to spend time with my needles again!

Hi Jackie.
Your Shores of HRH looks wonderful! It looks like it is a fun stitch.

It's always fun to see your quilts. I distinguish UFOs from WIPs. A UFO is something I will never finish so I might as well get rid of it now. On the other hand a WIP is a project that I will definitely complete...someday.

Your stitching is AMAZING! Wishing I could see well enough to do that. Love the bright colors in the blocks. Nothing like just jumping in both feet first and doing something new like quilting, looking forward to seeing you work out of your comfort zone!

Another block finished - yay! It's looking great.

The quilt blocks are looking great too! It seems a lot of people are getting into, or back into, quilting. There certainly are lots of wonderful fabrics out there!

Jackie your stitching is so beautiful. I like that you call them WIP's rather than UFO's!! Your blocks are gorgeous and I can't wait to see it all together and hear about your quilting process.

It's such a good feeling to finish up a quilt. And I don't call mine UFO's either - but WIPs because I always hope that I'll get back to them. You have a great mix of fabrics in that quilt!

Yay for finishing another block! :)

I like the randomness of the patterns with these squares. Even if the fabric choices aren't what you'd like them to be, it will still be comfy and warm when you are done. Something nice to throw across your lap when watching tv?

Love your HRH block. Really pops on the fabric nicely.

And yea for you getting re-energized on the quilting. I suspect that once you take the first step to doing the quilting yourself, you'll love it!

I can't wait to see how your quilt sashing and cornerstones come together with all of those lovely blocks. It is going to be a wonderful quilt, made even more special when you quilt it!

I love your Shores block. It is coming right along!
Your quilt is really pretty too. I like the 9" blocks instead of 12". Good luck quilting it. That is something I always dread!
Take Care.

Lovely stitching! If I were to stitch this piece, I think this would be one of my favorite blocks. I love the top of the house with the little lady. Your quilt blocks are pretty, and I'm excited to see how you quilt them. :)

Yay for you to be needling again! I'm glad to see your design wall and that great-looking set of blocks. I think you'll have fun with quilting, since it seems you have the right attitude. Enjoy. Learn. Have fun! Will I get to meet you at QuiltFest JAX when I'm there Sept. 28? I have five quilts in the show.

I love that block
Good luck on the quilting, you can do it

I know that - I also have some old quilt blocks lying around in bags and I should get back to them one day. But I'm sure that there would be colour choices that I wouldn't do again, lol. But the maker is always more critical than the person who just looks at a quilt. I'm looking forward to seeing your quilt with the pink and white blocks finished. It will look great.

Love the stitching and I think the blocks look lovely, isn't it funny how our tastes change though. I was looking at my second ever quilt recently and I wouldn't have put those fabrics together now lol

I prefer the term PiP (project in progress) -- however long it takes! Your stitchery is so very pretty and I love your quilt blocks. Samplers are fun and I also really like your colors.

Your Shores block is so neat - it's one of my faves on that sampler. LOVE LOVE your $5 quilt finish that Nancy quilted for you. It is so stunning Jackie - hope you enjoy using it. Cheers Mel
