Uh Oh!

I've slowly been working on assembling the rows on my Cotton Club quilt.  It's been really slow going.  A couple of weeks ago, I spent quite a bit of time in the sewing room and got my first row together.  Pretty, huh?  I decided to go ahead and get started on the second row which has different fabrics.  Greg was sitting in the chair in my sewing room and we were chatting.

All of a sudden it dawned on me that I had assembled this entire row with one wrong fabric .  I've circled the fabric that was placed incorrectly in the picture below.  All of the light outside tan triangles should be chocolate brown.  Generally, I roll with the punches when this kind of thing happens but this time, it really hurt.  I couldn't breathe for a second which is a first for me.  Poor Greg, he didn't know what had happened!

Turns out, I'd labeled this fabric as E but erased it and changed it to F.  Unfortunately, I didn't erase thoroughly and from the angle I was working from that morning, my eye saw the E.   Ugh!  Thankfully, I felt like going back and ripping it all out about 30 minutes later.

Happy Monday and Happy Stitches!

Bummer, especially when it looks so pretty as is. But I guess in the context of the whole pattern, it just wouldn't work. Alas, the life of a needleworker....

looks beautiful no matter how it goes together. Very nice job!

Ouch! But a quilter's got to do what a quilter's got to do, I guess - which holds also for cross stitchers :-)

Oops, forgot to say that it's very pretty indeed.

Oh I've done that before!!! It looks pretty already.

Oh gosh, that is painful!!! I hope you have enough fabric to finish the quilt up despite the mistake. You're so brave to rip it all out and do it again. So nice that your DH will keep you company in your sewing room. I like that! Oh, and the quilt is gorgeous!

OMG, I think that I would have died if I did that! Although I have done that on other quilts. I had to check my rows to make sure that I did them right - you had my heart stopping for a minute.

I haven't had time to work on mine either - just two rows done. Every time I think that I'm going to have a free week something comes up and I get about 1 hour out of the whole week!!

Bless you. I did something similar a few years ack and ut still hurts thinking about it.

That's kinda why I stopped sewing clothing...I was always doing something like that. In fact, I had a few mishaps yesterday in the sewing room too! I'm sorry it happened, but glad you were able to correct it in only 30 minutes!! It's lovely.

Your quilt is beautifully stitched together. It looks gorgeous. Thank goodness it only took you 30 mins to take apart. You will be much more happier seeing & knowing that the quilt is pieced together correctly. To me it looks remarkable as is. Looking forward to seeing it later with the chocolate fabric.

So sorry. I know that feeling well. Rick has trouble understanding the sudden mood shift also, though after 30 years he knows how to make a quick escape to the garage. Hugs.

what lovely work! Its a shame you had to take it apart

Argggggghhhhhhh! Not fun. :(
(It does look very pretty though.)

Oh Jackie....what a bummer. Thankfully you caught the mistake fairly early on and were able to fix it in half an hour.

Even with the mistake, the piece looks wonderful.

UGH! I feel your pain...I just ripped out an over-one leaf last night because I very carefully counted and then started in five stitches too low (it'd run into something else if I didn't rip it). This was on a much larger scale, though!!! It'll be worth it in the end.

I hate it when that happens! I'm glad you got it sorted out.

Ouchie! So sorry, but sounds like you spent a little quality time with your seam ripper. I'm sure you'll be very happy with it when it's done, though.

Ack! I hate those kind of goof-ups. I'm just glad for you to have had the right attitude about fixing it. I would have done the same. Your blocks are looking really nice.

Don't you just hate it when that happens? It looks really lovely as it is, but I guess it just would look wrong with the rest of the quilt if you had left it as it was.

Oh, Jackie, I'm so sorry this happened--you were awfully brave to go back and rip everything out... It really is gorgeous and I understand how you want it to be perfect!

I hate it when that happens, but I have to admit that I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who has made mistakes like this!

Oh Jackie, I can just imagine how your heart sank! Glad it didn't take you too long to get it fixed.

Oh how I feel for you. We've all been there. I hope you got it sorted.

ARRRRGGGHH! Sounds like a terrible moment. I've had those too. Funny how you just sit there with a buzzing in your ears and no breath going in and out. Awful feeling! Sounded like you're still rolling with the punches though.

Hey, at least it was just a row. I did a whole quilt and had to really think about whether it would bother me or not if I left it as it was. I left it and no one else noticed it but every time I see the quilt, I know it and it bothers me! Oh well, it's just a quilt, right? We have to roll with the punches, as you say. Hugs!

It looks beautiful to me but then again I don't quilt. Glad it didn't take you too long to take out though.

Frustrating!!!!

Poor you. Good for you to have unpicked it and solve it.
But then a mistake in a quilt is allowed, I think.
Live the row of blocks.

You may thunk I'm crazy, but however the way you pieced them together, it will look absolutely gorgeous! Your blocks are unbelievably pretty....

So sorry - you know i love your work any way you piece it!

Karoline said...

Bummer, it's was looking so good. Hope that it wasn't too painful to unpick

Oh Jackie, I think I would have cried a bit before ripping it out. But the best is to just undo it immediately and then go from there again. Can't wait to see more of this wonderful quilt.

Kats Studio said...

Oh my, I bet that hurt. Been there, done that. I can stand a small error that would not be noticed but I would also take a complete row apart. Hang in there, it will be worth it in tne end. Looking forward to pictures.

Ouch - always painful, but glad you got it ripped out. Still beautiful! Hope all is well with you. I'm really slow with the blogging and visiting lately!

I hate to "un-sew" things. I thought it looked great as is, good for you for being motivated to go back and do it again. I'm calling on you for motivation the next time I have to do this, haha. Hugs!!

Oh my poor friend! It happens to us all at times. But it is already looking so beautiful that I am sure it will worth all that ripping. I love your choice of fabrics and you are doing a great job on the patchwork!
