Scrapping a Project?

I may be scrapping this project. I spent today making 48 flying geese. They're little. Very little. They're not perfect. At this size, I think they need to be pretty darn close.

In the interest of my sanity, this pile of untrimmed geese may just end up in the trash. Have you ever trashed a project? By trashed I'm mean literally in the garbage.

I've also started a knitting project. Yep, it's been a while. I've started it like 8 times. This time, it's taking. I'm further along than this picture shows and I'm enjoying it! :)

I'm happy to have a project I'm enjoying on the needles. It's no secret that I haven't been knitting much this year. That didn't stop me from buying yarn for 2 projects while I was on vacation though!

Here is the most recent picture of Ann Dale. I haven't taken another stitch on her since I took this photo. I've decided I'm stitching it as charted without any major modifications. I've seen one finished and one with quite a bit of progress and they look fantastic. Seeing them really gave me a peace about the project. I never fell out of love with her but the frustration is gone!

Thank you all for your visits, your comments, and the inspiration I find on your blogs. May all your stitches be happy ones!

I have binned a project, much to my shame lol!

Your Ann Dale looks lovely and so does your knitting.

Your Ann Dale is beautiful! Oh yes Jackie, I've tossed more than one!

Yes Jackie - I've scrapped projects. A few of them unfortunately. The one I was most sick about was one made out of Beatrix Potter fabrics for my daughter. What a disaster it was and into the trash it went. I was so relieved when I did that.

Can't wait to see the progress on your knitting and your Ann Dale looks wonderful. I think that I'm doing mine like yours is. I thought it looked fine before the corrections came out. Have a great week!

Oh Jackie, my philosophy is that life is waaayyyy too short to waste any of it on a project that doesn't make you feel good! Trashing it and moving on is sometimes the best thing to do.

What exactly is the new knitting project? From the looks of the picture, it must be socks, but I don't recognize the pattern.

I've been mulling over some new knitting ideas this weekend too. It must be all the rain we're having!

I don't remember ever scrapping a project, but I have given away things that I didn't like anymore. I always figure someone else might like it and/or they can throw it away and I'll never know. What are you knitting?

Bummer about the flying geese. They are tiny! I have a project that should be scrapped. lol! I just haven't gotten around to throwing it out. :D Love your Ann Dale -- I'm so glad it makes sense just to stitch as charted and not worry about the errors.

Yes, I have scrapped (trashed) a project.

Good luck with yours!

I don't know about scraping your geese pieces. Hm maybe just try stitching one block and see how it comes out. I would try that first. Then decide. I haven't been able to stitch on Ann Dale myself. Been able to work on mini's. I do miss Ann Dale. Nice to see you post:) Have a wonderful day. love Annette

OMG those flying geese are so small they make my eyes and hands ache. I wouldn't blame you for scraping the project. It's very tiny!! What are you knitting, it looks interesting with 2 sets of kneedles on, I've never done anything like that, looks scarey. And you picture looks beaituful, you are just so good at the stitching!! Hugs.

I love these little blocks! But you have to work on what brings you pleasure. If you want a foster quilter, I'd be happy to take them into foster care and return them to you in a finished project! LOL

I cant see anything wrong with that flying geese square?

I've changed ideas mid project but a lot of my projects end up in the naughty corner for a while at some point!

Your cross stitch is so beautiful love to see your work. I wish you lived closed as I thinkyou would be very good for my soul. thanks for your friendship girl!! Hugs

Wow--are those ever little! And you already did 48 of them--amazing. How many do you need altogether? If it's not too many more, I would probably plow through to the end. If it's a lot--I would scrap it, too.

I've thrown away a couple of small cross stitch project that I just couldn't get in to after a few days of stitching. Too lazy to frog so out they went :)

Your Ann Dale is stunning, Jackie--really love the colors and design.

Oh Jackie! I love Ann Dale, she is coming along beautifully!
I don't think I've ever trashed a project, but I probably should have a few times. Maybe you should just package it all up and send it to GoodWill. Someone may find it and think it's perfect. :)
Good luck with your knitting...that is one think I have not gotten into yet.

Lovely progress on Ann Dale!

Maybe you can make some small item out of them? I'm not sure how big 48 squares would be if sewn together. I've definitely thrown projects away that didn't work out. I knew I'd never finish them and I couldn't stand seeming them haunting me every time I opened a closet and the unfinished bag stared me in the face!

Ann Dale is looking great!

More than one project has ended up in the bin! I'd hate to count just how many :)

I love Ann Dale, it looks great!

Life is short, not enough time to do everything. Only do what gives you joy. I toss lots of projects and call them learning experiences. Practice pieces, all artists do them.

Love how your heirloom sampler is coming along. Can't wait to see what your knitting is going to be.

Have fun this week.

Hi Jackie, I'm not a quilter (although I wish I was!) but I think your little geese look nice and neat. Although at that size I'm sure you need many, many more so I suppose if you're heart isn't in the project ... away it goes!

I'm glad you're continuing on with "Ann" ... she's looking pretty! I am determined to stay on course with mine and not let her flaws frustrate me! There's something about this girl that keeps me stitching!

Happiness is SO important and if the project is driving you mad and you don't want to see it to the end, scrap it! Love Ann Dale...she is looking fab Jackie! Hope you're safe from all the Florida rains and storms.

Oohhhh...those geese are tiny! How about instead of the trash can, you use them to stuff some cross~stitch smalls ~
Ann is a stunning project ~ I love the colors!

I haven't trashed many projects - but it has happened here and there. I just trashed a cross stitch this spring actually. It was a freebie pattern from a well-known designer and halfway through I decided I hated the colors the designer had picked out and it was too late to go about changing them/ripping it all out so into the trash it goes. Just do it and move on. You'll feel better unloading it. Promise. lol

I have to admit to trashing a couple of smaller cross stitch projects over the years and a few smaller pieces that I've tried to finish and completely messed them up. 48 of them though? Are you sure there's nothing you can do with them? What about just putting them out of sight for a while and seeing if that helps.

It's a shame after all of that work to scrap them. I have some small quilt projects put away in ziplocs, but have never actually thrown any project out. :) Can't wait to see your knitting project grow! And Ann Dale is looking so pretty!! :) Hope you aren't in Debby's path.

Sure have scrapped a project! It's not a sin to do that. Even better, give it away. Someone will figure out a way to salvage it. Looks like you've been doing all sorts of crafty things. Maybe all the rain is keeping you indoors? It has us! We've been in our new house three days now and have uppacked more than half the boxes. Coming down the home stretch and I'm anxious to get to my sewing room. That new Bernina, still in the box (!), is calling my name.

Hi Jackie! I have never trashed a quilting project, but I've only been quilting for a year. As I've been sewing since I was a kid, I'm sure I've thrown away more than one!! And by the way - GO KNITTING! I am a knitter too, and it's so relaxing! Have fun with your project!

Ann Dale is looking really beautiful Jackie - glad you are back to knitting - sometimes there is just no time and energy for everything we want to do. Your quilting is lovely and I'm sure you made the right decision not to continue with something you are not 100 percent pleased with. Hope you have a great weekend and stay cool. Mel

I haven't trashed any projects. They wind up in my scraps. Ever the optimist. Your work is beautiful. All of it.
