On the Needles - Knitting Needles!

I talked before about casting on for this project many, many times. This time it's working! It's a hat for my youngest son. It's a different pattern in that you knit 20 something rows and then do a purl row. That purl row becomes the bottom edge because you'll end up turning the first 20ish rows under and joining it. The ears will stay warm because they'll have a double layer over them. Yep, I live in Florida and it's mild here in winter. Jacob, however, lives in flipflop and shorts and rarely wears a jacket but will wear a beanie. This hat will warm his whole body!

Here I tucked the bottom part under so you'll get a visual.

Can you see the pattern?

Here, let me point it out for you....

It's a skull and crossbones. Let's hope I'm managing my notoriously tight knitting and have loosened up enough that he can actually get this hat on his noggin. He hasn't displayed any interest in my knitting or quilting anything for him but he'll really enjoy this - if it fits. Fingers crossed.

Otherwise, I'm going to have to find someone with a small head to give this to.

Very nice! I've done that technique and it works well, but I did find it difficult to knit through both layers. The result was well worth it though. I'm sure it will be a bit hit!

Cute hat! The skull pattern reads nicely because your knitting is nice and even.

I'm reading and looking at your hat and thought beautiful. My impression was a bit of a Nordic feel and look to it. Then you pointed out the skulls...lol I didn't even see them. Looking perfect to me. And I don't knit. If its cotton it stretches:)

Oh my gosh, I love it!!!! I hope it fits. I didn't see the skull and crossbones -- what guy wouldn't love that? lol! Love the colors too -- and it will definitely be warm with that double layer!

This hat is destined to be a hit. Great knitting! I hope to someday be as advanced a knitter.

Oh, I'll bet he will really love this, Jackie--can't wait to see the finished piece. (Maybe he'll model it for us?!)

That pattern is so cool. I know what you mean about these kids running around in shorts and things even when it gets cold. My son does that and we live in Michigan. But if the head is covered then hopefully your son will stay warm, and I can't imagine him not wanting to wear it - it's so great!! I hope that it fits him.

And that is exactly why the things I knit are called Cinderella socks, hats, mittens...whoever they fit can have them! (It's going to be a great hat...I hope it fits!)

What a fun design.

Good for you to be trying to make him something. I know how difficult it is to do that for a fella. Seems like you've got all the elements - design and concept - for making it suitable for his needs and interest. I hope it works out for you!

Super great pattern!!! I LOVE it.
I just did one of those tucked over brims on a hat last winter and it makes for a fantastic finish, I tell you. Very professional and sturdy.
