Eeking Out the Last Minutes...

I'm eeking out the last minutes of vacation. I don't like to announce on the blog when we go away but we left on June 1 for my parents cabin in the mountains. No cable, no internet - we love it! We had a good time spending time together away from the hustle and bustle. On the way, we stopped at the Georgia Aquarium for a few hours. Greg fell in love with the Beluga Whales. He took all kinds of video and spent a long time watching them.

Not much sewing this weekend as a result of just getting back. I did manage my We Be Learning Beginner Bee block for Nita this month. She wanted a Churn Dash in 30's fabric on a white background.

Since we were gone, I still need to post for my May Theme-a-Licious updates. The theme for May was May Memories which is all about working on class projects that we hadn't finished. I have 2 that I worked on a bit this month. First up, Long May She Wave by Ellen Chester of With My Needle. Ellen's classes are a real treat so if you ever get a chance to take one, please do!

I also worked on Needlebook of Stitches; a Chessie and Me piece from a class I took at The Attic Needlework in January 2011. Most of this was stitched. I finished up the stitching (and moved some around) and cut the linen pieces out. I attached one of them to the wool needle book we made in class. I could have finished this up but Ann Dale was hammering away in my head.

Jean and Heather tagged me in the past few days; I'll respond to those later in the week as this post is getting long. It's going to be a hard re-entry back into the work scene tomorrow. I hope to combat that with some needle and thread time. Thank you for visiting my blog and I hope all your stitches are happy ones!

It's always sad when vacation ends. Glad you had a good time. Love the block you made, and love your WIPs. Good luck getting back into work mode.

I am going to be feeling the pain tomorrow, too...we left on May 27 for Europe and just got back yesterday. Still jet-lagged.... I would have admonished you for not letting me know you were just down the street from me (at the Aquarium), but I wasn't here, anyway! =) Glad you had a great time. I think everyone is farther along on Long May She Wave than I am!!

How wonderful for you and Greg to have had that get-away. It sounds idyllic. I can understand Greg's fascination with the beluga whales. They're so graceful. I react somewhat the same way to manatees. Can't wait for next January when we can go visit them again in Blue Springs. It's nice to see the things you're working on.

Glad you had a great trip, I tend not to advertise on the internet if we're going to be away. Now if its just me and Todd is going to be home I may mention it but if the house is going to be empty... not a good idea!

I've stitched up some wonderful stuff there!

Lovely photo from the Aquarium. What a beautiful needlebook, love all the different stitches. I haven't gotten to work much on Ann dale myself, but she lets me know shes waiting for me:) And I think its smart not to announce when we go away either on the blogs. Good to be safe. When you go back to work at least you have some wonderful memories to think back on:)

It's good to get away from everything, including the computer! But it's nice that you still worked on some projects too. Wouldn't want you to suffer crafty withdrawal!

Sounds like a wonderful vacation. I'm glad you got to run away for a few weeks.
I love your stitching! Ellen is a wonderful teacher, I agree. I took a class from her several years ago, and I the sampler we worked on is on me list!
Have a great one.

There's nothing better than a break from the daily routine is there? Especially when you're in a beautiful area with peace and quiet. I look forward to "vacation" every year and the minute we get back, I'm already planning the next one!

It sounds like a great trip! It must be so nice to unplug for awhile. We are glued to our iPhones so I know DH & I would both have serious D.T.s if we unplugged! LOL

Beautiful work--your class pieces are so nice!

I think you're wise not to tell the world when you are leaving town, Jackie. A trip to the mountains sounds ideal. We're hoping to take an anniversary trip to the mountains in NC this fall. I've never been there, but have always wanted to go...

Lovely stitching and quilting as always--I love how the Long May She Wave piece is turning out :)

Glad you were able to enjoy some time away.

Thanks for your kind words. It looks like you're nearly finished with Long May She Wave. Hope you'll send me some photos for my blog.

Linda's little book is really cute.

Good luck on Ann.

Hopefully you feel totally renewed after your getaway. It sounds wonderful! And I love the photo of your husband watching the whales. You will be back in full swing before you know it and it is already starting by the looks of the quilt block and stitching. :-)

Hugs from Holland ~

P.S. - I just started the new home and garden blog today. Stop by when you get a chance.

Your vacation sounds like a dream! I would love to get away from the hustle and bustle for a while. :) Your aquarium trip sounds like fun too. I love the 30's fabric - I have a small collection just waiting for me to do something with them. Lovely stitching on your class projects! Hope your week back wasn't too difficult. :)

How nice that you and your husband enjoyed such a wonderful vacation in the mountains at your parents' cabin. I can just imagine how quiet and peaceful it must have been there.

I love the 30's fabric that you used for your churn dash block. Great stitching on your Ellen Chester flag, and your Needlebook of Stitches too.

Have a wonderful weekend...hopefully someplace cool!
