Unintended Hiatus

I didn't intend to be gone so long.  Greg and I had to make an unplanned trip to Las Vegas where his mother, who was on vacation, was admitted to the hospital in septic shock.  She spent a week in ICU and was transferred to another hospital while we were on our way home a week later.  She's had some setbacks since we've been home and as of today, has spent two weeks in the hospital.  It was an exhausting week - too many nights with not enough sleep and a couple without any.  We did spend 30 minutes at the Hoover dam and spent one day with our niece and nephew.   At this point, we're not sure when she will be able to fly back home.  We're taking it day by day.

Not much sewing has been going on but I did manage to get my Cotton Club blocks completed in time for our upcoming meeting next weekend.  This blocks are little - 5 1/2" - but they take loads of time it seems.  Not quick and easy for sure.  At least not for me!
Cotton Club Blocks
My Wee Bee Learning Bee block is due out soon so I worked on that today too.  It's supposed to be an improv block.  Improve to me means unplanned.  I think I'm more of a planned improv kind of quilter.  The guidelines were very specific and detailed.  I worked diligently to meet those requirements.  It needs a good pressing.  It's untrimmed - I'll let my Bee mate do that.
Improve block for We Be Learning Bee
Stitching has been minimal.  I did drag a big bag of it everywhere we went in Vegas including all 5 airports we were in.  Greg helped me carry it.  I only had energy for a few stitches and by the time we got home, I'd wished I'd never taken it.  I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things this week.

The new Blogger is giving me fits.  My page froze and it's taken me 15 minutes to get it worked out and only when I was willing to ditch the whole post.  Please tell me it gets easier!

I've visited all the blogs but left much fewer comments than normal.  All of you continue to inspire me every day and I sure enjoy your blogs and your visits here.  Thank you and may all your stitches be happy ones!

I'm sorry to hear about your MIL. I hope that she continues to improve. We've been going through the same thing with my husband's mother. She's going on 4 weeks in the hospital.

Your Cotton Club blocks look great, but I do have to agree with you that they are a little fussy - probably because the pieces are smaller.

Adding my hopes and prayers for your MIL's speedy recovery!

Your blocks are beautiful. The Cotton Club ones do look very detailed (read: "fiddly and time-consuming"), but they sure are pretty!

So sorry to hear about your MIL. My own MIL passed away last Tuesday. And I am not liking the new Blogger AT.ALL!! I went back to the old interface, but I hear that won't be available forever :-( On the new blogger, I cannot upload any pictures from my computer library anymore, which is a huge inconvenience. Plus I could never figure out how to get back to the dashboard if I went to a NEW post page. Why do they have to keep changing things when it works the other way???

Sorry to hear about your MIL, Jackie. I hope she continues to improve each day.

Those Cotton Club blocks are lovely but I can imagine how fiddly they were to put together. Like your Wee Bee block too, great colours in it.

Life can sure throw in some monkey wrenches. Sending good thoughts for your MIL.

I love those Cotton Club blocks. That's a lot of piecing in a small space.

The improv block looks like fun. No need to worry about mistakes!

Wow, look at that variety in your piecing. So delightful to see. Great show.

Sorry to hear about your Mother-in-law. That's a lot of stress for everyone but I can only imagine how difficult that is for her. Being away from home at a strange hospital - ugh. That would freak me out. I'm sure she was so glad to see y'all.

I bet you're just glad to be home and taking a deep breath. *karendianne.

So sorry to hear about your MIL. I hope she can recover quickly. How awful for her to be on vacation, and away from the comforts of home, and you having to take an emergency trip out there!
Ironically my MIL was having strange symptoms this week, and has not felt well. I talked to my brother(he is a doctor) last night and explained her symptoms, and he said she may have Sepsis, and to get her into the hospital. She lives in Arizona, so I called my husbands sister, and told her that she needed to do that today. We will find out later if she has the same thing. It's so scary! My thoughts and prayers with your family.
Beautiful picture of you and your hubby at Hoover Dam.
Your quilt photos are wonderful too.
Hugs to you!

It always feels good to be home after a trip like that, doesn't it? I hope your MIL feels much better soon and is able to return home. Much less stress for you two, if you don't have to worry about her being in a hospital in a faraway state.

I love your blocks. Your fabric and color choices in both are just wonderful. You do such a great job and I don't think you realize it!

Take care!

I hope she gets to come home soon. I can't imagine the stress. :(

I switched my Blogger back to the old style. Not sure if that is going to be around forever or if they are doing away it totally at some point, but I'm hanging on 'til the very end!

gosh Jackie - sounds like you and DH are having a time - his poor MIL - it's horrible to go off from home and have all those medical emergencies - would make me never want to leave again. No doubt you have not gotten much done - give yourself a break - you've had a lot on your plate. Hope you can relax soon and get back in the groove. Hugs Mel
