I Need to Spend TIme on Ebay!

I think my mojo is coming back. I was able to get this next block in my Stitchers Garden BOM completed. There is something about yellow and blue that is always so crisp.

This block featured the cording foot #25 from Bernina to sew down the DMC thread which becomes the stem of the flower. I forgot to do decorative stitching so the applique was blanket stitch.

My favorite part of this block without fail is the background stitching with the twin needle. I really like the way it looks. I've definitely gotten comfortable with using a twin needle and can see doing more of it in the future. It's not as scary as it looks! I think it would be great to use on bag handles.

Last weekend a lady at the quilt shop brought this beauty in to show everyone. It's a 1939 hand crank Singer sewing machine in fantastic condition. She paid $63 for it on Ebay. With $35 shipping, her total cost was just less than $100. To me, that seems like a great deal! I don't spend any time on Ebay but I'm now thinking I need to visit there every once in a while. Another great thing about this machine? She can keep sewing if her electricity goes out!

I'd love to have a vintage sewing machine!

I hope you're having a great week so far. Happy Stitches!

I love your BOM -- twin needles are so cool!! And that machine! I don't know -- ebay is just so dangerous for me. I don't hold out for bargains. lol! But I'd love a vintage sewing machine too. Someday maybe!

I bet if you went to a few auctions in your area you would find one. That Singer is a wonderful one and I bet she will have alot of fun sewing with it.

Your applique flowers are delightful!

Thanks for sharing, Carolyn from Des Moines, Iowa :)

Oh,Jackie, your block is fantastic!! I have the Quilting Edition Bernina; man, I wonder if it does that? LOL! I've been too busy sewing and quilting to go exploring on it! You really did a beautiful job..and that vintage Singer--too neat! I just finished yet another set of pillow cases, for my mom this time..they are one of my favorite things to make. But I keep making them for everyone else and don't have any for me.

You sew with such beautiful detail! I am always amazed by each of your new blocks. Love the blue and yellow!
That sewing machine is great. I happen to have 3 vintage machines that belonged in my husband's family. I'd love to have my grandmother's treadle machine that I learned to sew on, but for some reason my cousin has it. Oh well, the memories of sewing on it are what's important, and I'll always have those.

Glad to hear you are finding your mojo again. It's frustrating when it disappears for a while.

I love seeing what you're doing with these quilt. I'd love to be able to do a quilt utilising my machine a lot more. Well done and thank you for sharing.

Oh how lovely that Singer is. Last year I managed to pick up a Singer treadle machine in lovely condition for .....hmm, my bad memory tells me ...... around $76. Can't remember exactly. It was seventy something. I thought it was a bargain. We all had a play on it and I sewed an old fashioned nighty for my dd on it. I love it! However it has been unused this year. Shame on me. Still, I too have something to sew on should we be without power. ;o)

I love them!

Your block is really pretty. I love the effect of the twin-needle work, and was totally in awe of your blanket stitched circle, my circles come out very un-circular usually.

You are so good about using all the special features of your machine. Seems like most of the just sit idly by for a lot of people. Your block is beautiful with all the nice touches.

That vintage machine is super. Not familiar with a hand=crank version. I do remember the treadle machines though.

Your quilt block is SO pretty! The variety of stitches give it so much interest, and that twin needle stitch really is beautiful. It makes me want to explore my own Bernina a little bit more!

I have an old Singer Featherweight, and though it's not a hand-crank, it's very special. I enjoy owning it (no bargain price for me though!) and occasionally use it for piecing. They just don't build machines like these old ones.

Happy to hear about the MoJo thing. Hoorah!

Your block looks great!

I saw a hand crank singer in the window of this "junk" store, and I do mean junk. It had deer antlers piled on top of it and looks so pitiful under those antlers. I banged on the door, determined to rescue it and no one came. The owner had decided to take the day off. We were traveling so I could not go back the next day - but I wonder if it is still there.

You are really good about learning the features of your machine. So many of the women I know that get a beautiful machine don't know how to use it. I am also in awe of how your quilting has improved from when you first started showing us. You have done beautiful work on this project.
