They All Deserve a Hero's Welcome

The latest $5 quilt block is below. A couple of points will be chopped off a bit when this is sewn together. That bothers me a bit but not enough to do it again!
$5 Quilt Block
What I saw on my way to knit night Friday just warmed my heart. Tyler Southern was coming home to a hero's welcome. People were lined up everywhere. They were lined up from the interstate exit ramp to the front door of his family home.

I saw the front end of his police escort but didn't see his motorcade.

I couldn't help but think about all the men and women who won't be coming home. What the service men and women (and their families) do for us is something we should appreciate every day, not just the 4th of July, Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Thank you Tyler Southern and Welcome Home!

Nice quilt block. Looks perfectly pieced to me.

What a great welcome parade. Nice to see that kind of appreciation shown.

I love that block and what it represents. Been looking for an easy block (I'm a beginning quilter) to use in a quilt for my cousin who is serving in Iraq. So, thank you!

Such a wonderful display of patriotism. It's so heartwarming. That reminds us of all the men and women serving our country in troubled areas. So many Iowa National Guardsmen recently departed - the largest deployment ever. We're very proud of these brave people.

And I appreciated that your newly made block is red, white, and blue. How appropriate!

Lovely looking block.

I went and read the story about your local herro returning home. Poor lad, to go through that at only 20 years old. It really should make us all stop and think a bit.

You are so right.......it is a scary thing for our military to be in harm's way on foreign soil and they all deserve our gratitude!

Love your block -- what's a couple of points? It'll look fine!

I so agree with you about the hero's welcome. It must have been pretty heart warming to see that welcome home!

A beautiful quilt block once again, and I think losing a little of the points will just give the piece history of your quilting.

How wonderful that this parade was given to a deserving man. Not that I don't already appreciate what the servicemen and women do, but if you haven't seen it, watch the movie "The Hurt Locker". You will appreciate them even more.

What a special post and thank you for the link. Very touching and like you say, it should not only be celebrated on July 4th.

I agree with you on the points. It would be nice if they didn't get chopped but I wouldn't redo the block either.

What a wonderful homecoming!

Very nice block. I want to say that your parade in the photo was great. We have had a few soldiers return to families and the school and community all were there. Some were happy reunion, and others were, not. Thanks is just not enought sometimes is it?

Love the block. You can always fudge the seam over to include the points when you sew it the next block. Once it it quilted it will look perfect.

Thanks for posting the heart warming photos of your community welcoming Tyler home.

Your quilt block is beautiful, Jackie!

Well said--we spent a career in the military, as well, but my goodness, we didn't sacrifice what people are having to sacrifice today.

Brings a tear to your eye to see all those people waiting to welcome him home. Love your block and it had a patriotic look not know that you would pass that parade of people.

We had a fallen hero in Lampasas, we all lined up with flags as the herst went by....it was so hard not to cry.....but I am glad this hero came home.
