Seriously???

I don't usually makes this type of post on my blog but today I'm going to. Saturday I went to the mall for my monthly skunk stripe removal (hair cut and color) and thought I'd stop by and check on swimming suits for my nieces (ages 7 and 4). I live in Florida and this is a good time of year to purchase them at a deep discount from a nice department store.

I always go for the pink.

As I got closer, I noticed the sticker on the bodice.
Are you kidding me????
This was on a CHILDRENS size 8. Can someone tell me why an 8 year old needs a padded swimming top? This was not lining - it was padding. I know the difference.

Either I'm officially a prude or there is something seriously wrong here.

It's like they're encouraging these kids to mature even faster than they already are. I don't like it one bit. They didn't have those when my kids were little. Geez!

I AGREE! There is something seriously wrong with that!

Ugh! Girls have the rest of their lives to put up with boobs. Why start them off early???

That infuriates me! Why is everyone trying to make little girls into little teenagers? It is ridiculous! My daughter is 12 years old and I wouldn't buy that for her. Let's keep out kids innocent as long as possible!!

Oh, I am with YOU...that is totally ridiculous. They grow up too fast as it is....and they surely don't need THAT kind of "help". What is this world coming to now?? It's quite alarming, actually!

OH my..have you seen some of the 8-year-old kids out there? LoL! If you're a prude, I'm a prude!! Little girls just don't stay little girls very long these days, do they?

This is terrible and it is happening more and more often. I remember a few years ago, going Christmas shopping with my mom. She was shopping for the granddaughters on this particular day. We were looking at the clothes as my SIL had said the girls needed underwear. We were going to look for cute matching sets like they used to have. You know what we found in the girls size 8's? Thong underwear!! That was about all they had for underwear! I looked at my mom and said, you know why these are here? Because there is demand for them. Just sick! If I had a girl there would be no way in the world I'd buy an 8 year old thong underwear or a padded swimsuit! We have to think about what impact we are making on our kids when we shop fot them. Bet you're glad you had boys!

You're not a prude.

We're making our children grow up waaaaay too fast. And it's sad.

There is definitely something wrong there. What has happened to children being children?? And let's face it a size eight usually fits a 5-6 years. What do they need padding for?

There IS something seriously wrong! I kinda miss the "good ole days!"

That's ridiculous!

That is beyond wrong. I can't stand the slutty looking little girl clothes that have become more popular already, but this totally goes above and beyond. How ridiculous!

It's WRONG, so WRONG. My 9 yr old BOY notices things like this and says that's HOT! He then gets popped in the mouth with my hand. uggghhh And why do I keep thinking you live in Texas? I dunno......

Something is definitely seriously wrong!! You are not a prude at all. I don't know who would want to buy these types of garments but it certainly won't be me. (sigh)

Actually makes me a little sick.

I'm with you on this. It's just incredible.

I have to agree there is something seriously wrong there! Children are innocent and shouldn't even have to think of things like a padded swimming top.

That is ridiculous... I really struggle to find nice sensible clothes for my 7 year old. She's very tall and wears a size 10-11 but the styles are often too old for her...

That is just crazy. But I guess it sells so that's what they do.

(LOL.. 'skunk stripe removal' -- I'm due for one too)

I couldn't agree with you more! I can't believe the "styles" that they have in the stores for little girls...outrageous! Unfortunately, people buy them...if they were left on the rack to rot maybe they would get the hint and design something a little more modest for our children to wear.

Unbelievable! I really feel for the mothers today trying to bring up young girls--what an increasingly difficult job with stuff like this being thrown at them...

I think there is something seriously wrong here! Why can kids not just stay kids instead of trying to get them looking like grown ups.
Hope you were able to find something nice for you nieces!

I have turned way into a prude in my old age of 40 something. I don't get it, don't get it, don't get it. In this day and age there is way toooooo much of making little girls too, well, grown up. I don't like it either, or the commercials, the photos in magazines....I could go on all day. Thanks for sharing because it makes us all aware.

I have to agree with you that there is something seriously wrong with that! Kids grow up fast enough these days without wearing things like that.

I will always be a prude if it means keeping little kids little! I do not like how fast kids are maturing and it isn't natural. It's mainly commercialism and I don't think it is a good thing.

I agree, maybe that's why then the kids want plastic surgery at 18! It's wrong!

Ugh! That is awful!!! Absolutely awful1

When bathing suit shopping with my 8 year old daughter, I refused several based on the fact that they were too low cut or exposed more in other places. Even *I* had a bigger devil of a time finding a suit to fit me, plus I have more ample bosom this year with the nursing a baby. I ended up buying an XL top just to get the girls even remotely close to covered.
It's not you being a prude. Like someone else said, there's a (foolish) demand for it.

Giovanna said...

You are definitely not a prude, so we can only conclude that there's something seriously wrong here :-)

And I would love to know whether similar stickers were decorating the 8yo boys' bathing trunks...

You're no prude - and society is just way out of control!

I am reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo right now. I had not heard of the Mortal Instruments before - have to check it out.

Okay, if you are a prude then so am I!!! That is just ridiculous! I feel sorry for kids today that are pressured to grow up to fast unlike our time when we were encouraged to stay a child. In fact, I still am at 46...lol.
