Runner Up!

Heather at A Passionate Quilter had a contest on her blog. I wasn't the winner but was the runner up and the winner never contacted her. Look at this lovely Chocolate Lollipop fabric by Anna Maria that she sent me! Stop by and give her a hello.
Here is my next block on for the $5 Quilt. For the first time, I was sewing at midnight the night before our meeting. Bad move. The block isn't sized as nicely as it should be. I'm going to live with it though. In the words of Tim Gunn "make it work" is what I'm going to do!
When I was packing at the last minute for my trip to Dallas I decided to pack an old friend. My Per Terras big knitting project. I actually knit 12 or 14 rows on it while I was gone and a few since I've gotten back.
I think I started this project a year ago. When I started it, I thought I'd never get the hang of it. I knit and frogged, knit and frogged, frogged some more. Then it got better but it wasn't intuitive. When I picked this back up after having it sit for over 6 months I realized how much I've grown with my pattern reading and reading my knitting. It's SO much easier. Dare I say it is EASY now? This project is going to be special in that it's going to tell the story of my growth as a knitter. Don't you just love those kinds of projects?

Lucky you.. those are beautiful fabrics and I know you can never have enough!

The block looks great to me. But that would be way past my bedtime!

Love your knitting project. That looks like such yummy yarn (although with temps near 100 deg, no yarn looks yummy to me today). That's cool to have a piece that represents your progression.

Great win and isn't that the best proof, to see how easy something is now, that was difficult only half a year ago, that you are so talented! Wow, Jackie!

Yes I do, I love those kinds of projects. It is fun to see how we improve as knitters, quilters or whatever craft you try your hand at!

Congrats on the fabric win! Looks like neat stuff. And those basket blocks look very nice. From this view, there's no "make it work" needed. Actually, I love making basket blocks like those. My favorite part is hand-appliquing the basket handles.

Have a great weekend! For me, there's no sewing with grandies in the house, but it's lively!

I like that block. In my $5 club we have not gotten a block to do curves like the basket handles in yours. The block looks great.

What gorgeous fabrics you won! Lucky you! Love your next block -- make it work sounds like a good policy to me! And your knitting -- isn't it a good feeling to know you're improving as a knitter? Great stuff!

Hmm, I'm sure my growth-as-a-knitter project would not be nearly so impressive. I haven't graduated past scarves! lol! But I do love those scarves and so do all my girls.

Beautiful fabrics!

And your "make-it-work" block looks wonderful. :) Sometimes I feel all of my projects are make it work!

Sounds like you'll be knitting along pretty easily now.

I do like that with projects. It's amazing how you once thought something was hard and suddenly it's become easy. Your quilt block looks great. I can't tell you how many of those "make do" blocks I've had. You learn as you go along and the next time that same block will come out perfect.

Love your beautiful fabrics, Jackie! That sure is a nice runner-up prize. What did the winner receive I wonder?

Glad that a once-difficult knitting project now seems easy to you. You must feel very proud of how far you've come :)

Congrats on your win.....they are fun fabrics! Your knitting project is lovely, too. It is so nice when we can see that we have grown in our skills, isn't it?

Beautiful fabric win! Love the baskets.

I have had knitting projects like that. It's fun to see how much we have grown in such a short time.

Oooooh! Lucky runner-up :o) I love some of my first quilts! The second quilt I started, I cut out a *whole* quilt, then sewed the first block. Uh oh! Probably a 5-star pattern.... Two years later, I finally waded through 9 blocks, then created very wide outer borders and gave the kids the rest of the cut-out fabric to play with. The quilt is actually lovely and very playful. But the best part was being stretched creatively.

I've always loved the postage stamp block. I did a little project many years back and have a project in mind for next year.

You are so lucky! Love the colors in the fabric.

The block looks great! The pattern is so cute. I admire your determination to finish on time too.

Congrats on your growth as a knitter. Will be looking forward to seeing more of the pretty lace you are creating.
