My First Pillowcase!

Saturday I learned how to make pillowcases! My quilt shop is donating pillowcases to the Million Pillowcase Challenge and I figured it was a good time to learn something new and do something good at the same time. It didn't take long and it's something I can do again on my own.

There is something about pink and orange together that I just love. I think it appeals to my inner 5 year old! I hope whoever gets it really likes it.
The pillowcase is sewn so you can't see any raw edges on the inside. This is what intimidated me when I thought about it but it was really easy!
We became an IPhone family in the last month or so. We're all really enjoying it and I can't believe that I lived with my old Razor phone for so long. I'd love to hear any suggestions you have about Apps you can't live without. It's corny but I love this jigsaw puzzle app!
I'm going to try to stay home this long weekend and limit activities outside the house and instead do some fun things inside. I'm really looking forward to it!

Love your pillowcases...great fabric choice!!

Did you use that "sausage" method of making the pillowcase? I saved a video of that from online to use when I make them now as it was easy and, like you've said, no raw edges. Your fabrics are really nice!

Your pillowcase colors are scrumptious. These are especially fun to make with novelty prints, which is surely what you'll do when you have grandchildren someday. In the meantime, you can make decorative pillows for your own bed. That's what I've done.

Have a productive indoor weekend! It's so hot here already, that's what I've been doing... hibernating at the sewing machine in the basement.

Pink and orange are such happy colors so together they bloom into rainbows, sunflowers, balloons, lollipops, etc.....I guess this is pretty corny, but it is really what this pillowcase made me think of. I love it. I saw a tutorial on making these sausage pillowcases. I am definitely going to be making some.

Your pillowcase is beautiful!!!! Love the fabrics you chose!!! So cheerful~~~
So envy you got an iPhone!!! We are thinking of getting one for a while, but that means we need to change service, so we are still debating.... Enjoy your new phone~

Gorgeous and fun pillow cases. I always use one piece of fabric with French seams ... easy peasy. But yours are so much more decorative!

Have fun with that iPhone!

Great pillowcase! I'm afraid of that pattern too. lol! My sewing skills aren't great IMO. As for the iphone, I don't have one, want one! lol! There are supposed to be a couple of stitching guide apps for the iphone. I think it was in a newsletter for Needle in a Haystack. Might be worth getting.

Your pillowcase is very pretty, and I'm sure the person that gets it will love it! I like pink and orange together too and purple and orange.

I love your pillowcases! Orange and pink must appeal to my inner 5 year old too, because I love it!
Someday I hope to be an iPhone family, but AT&T doesn't work where I live right now. Maybe someday. Glad you are back!

Love your pillowcase Jackie and the fabric too! Makes me happy to look at it!

And congrats on your IPhone. I'm hoping and praying that our cell phone carrier is able to support those soon. I'd love to be able to communicate when I'm out, but DH wouldn't change carriers. Word on the street is that our carrier will support at the end of next month! Guess who will be the first standing in line! LOL

I love your pillowcase and the colors you used - it just says HAPPY!! Is there a pattern you used so that no seams showed? I have made pillow cases, but not like that, I love the no seam thing. The IPhone looks like fun, I wanted one, but my blackberry isn't that old and really I don't use my phone that much. Hope you have fun with it.

What a lovely pillowcase! I love the pink and orange together as well. :)

Congrats on the new iPhones! I can't live without mine anymore. I've become dependent on it, sadly enough. I'm not sure about recommending apps as I don't use them that much, but I do really like game apps. My favorite is Doodle Jump. Very addictive!

Yummy fabrics and great colors! I love pink and orange too, and don't mind if a bit of chartreuse get's thrown in. I've made so many of the pillowcases, I could do it in my sleep, but they are so easy and fun!

Orange and pink together are Yummy! They always remind me of Peach Melba.

Congrats on becoming an ipod family. Have fun setting it up to track your crafting life.

Will be looking forward to seeing what you make during your long weekend.

Very pretty pillowcase Jackie!

Congratulations on the iPhone! I have a Droid and not sure if yo have the same apps. I like My days - for marking your period, Shop Savy- to check prices of stuff in stores, I like the air control game and Bonsai Blast. Have to check to see if I can find the jigsaw puzzle app!

Enjoy your new gadget and hope the puppy is doing better, poor thing!

I like the pink and orange together too. Your pillowcase turned out cute. I struggled with pillowcases for a bit until I found the sausage method. Worked wonderfully the first time, woohoo!

My son has an ipod touch and he lets me play every once in awhile. I like to play i-associate. It's a word game that's very addictive.

I would like the puzzle one too :)

I love the pillowcase and I also love pink and orange together! I have a pillowcase ready to be sewn together. The owner of my LQS pinned it together for me. I am going to try it Friday so I may need to get help from you. Did you sew this one completely inside out then turn it? That's how mine is pinned together. I hope I can remember how she showed me to do it.

Pretty pillowcases and love the polka dot fabric. My hubby has the iphone and I love the "300 Bowl" bowling game. I hope to get one when Verizon picks them up as the AT&T service isn't great in my area.

Jackie I love your cheerful pillow case - nice you learned a new technique and did something good for the community. I don't have a single app downloaded and have had my IPhone for almost a year. I'm just not a gadget gal and it seems everything I am interested in involves ITunes and I just don't follow thru. urghhh - have a wonderful 3 day! Maybe I'll see you at KW if I get off early enough - Mel

Your pillow case is fabulous and I'm thinking it might be fate for me and someone telling me I need to make some 'cool' new pillow cases. You see, I just happened upon this blog that also had gorgeous pillow cases like yours. http://rosehip.typepad.com/rose_hip_blog/2010/03/open-the-door.html

I just got my iPhone about 2 mths ago and I also can't imagine life without it. How good is it?!! I've never been big on Facebook but have started using it a lot and also Twitter. I've found some really great quilty people on Twitter but for fun, the kids and I are really hooked on Tap Tap Revenge. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/tap-tap-revenge-3-boost/id362849514?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo%3D2
