It's Here!

Today my birthday gift from Greg arrived! My stitching and knitting chair. There is an ottoman too but it's not in the picture. I haven't even had a chance to sit in it yet. It was a busy day but hopefully I'll have time tomorrow. It fits in the space but with the ottoman it's a bit tight. I'll have to move it when I'm not using it. I can't tell you how much I've been looking forward to this getting here.
A while back someone asked me what this is that is set up on my cutting table.
It's a yarn swift. You put a hank of yarn on it...
...and wind it into a ball on the ball winder.
It makes a really nice cake of yarn that you pull the yarn from the center.
Lots of yarn comes in hanks and I seem to usually buy yarn this way. It can't be easily used the way it comes. Winding it into a center pull ball is the way to go. I like it this way because it has a flat bottom and it doesn't roll around.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Lucky you, to receive such a wonderful chair. You will feel so comfortable in it! I remember with the yarn my mother used to get, we had to hold op our arms. I can still feel the pain in my upper arms.
Have a lovely week, Jackie!!!

Nice stitching chair! Looks comfy! I think having to move the ottoman is no big deal. Worth it to me! :D (My yarn swift and ball winder are in the basement. Pretty sad, huh? Need to start using them again!)

I really hope the lounge chair suits you to a T, and that it doesn't get covered with fabric, a quilt top or two, and pattern books, as mine easily does!

When I last purchased yarn, the shop offered to wind my yarn for me as a courtesy. Then they went into a back room with the hank and returned with that flat ball. It was a mystery how it changed... until now. Thank you!

Your chair looks so comfy! The yarn winder is a nifty invention. I worked at a shop that had one of these, and it was so fun to wind the yarn. In case I didn't say it before Happy Birthday!

Wow, great gift, love that chair! I don't wind my own yarn but the yarn shop uses the same method and winds it for customers.

Your chair looks particularly comfy. I fear I'd sit down to stitch or knit and find myself settled in for a nap...

I wish you many many hours of stitching and knitting joy in it.
I like my yarn "cakes" too, wouldn't knit without them :)

Your chair looks so comfortable. Now, don't you feel like your room is just about complete. And I love yarn cakes too - after years of trying to pull yarn from the middle of the skein, I finally wised up!

Your chair is awesome. Ball winder thingy: when I was a child my grandma knitted and she would wind the balls of wool around her thumb so the end of the wool would come out of the middle - your way is so much nicer :)

What a good-looking chair. I'll bet it's really comfy when you get a chance to test it out! Looks like a wonderful place to relax and knit. I have a swift and use it quite often. I love it and feel lucky to own it. It saves sooooooo much time when winding yarn!
