Zippers!

My zipper class was this past week. We learned 4 ways to put in a zipper. Zippers are scary!
Here is a couple of pictures of the first method we learned. I think it's called a lap zipper.
My zipper foot was a bit weird to get used to. You can see that in my stitches. I'm sure I need remediation. But I won't be scared when I try sewing in a zipper!
i joined the Fat Quarter Shop Mystery Block of the Month Club. These are probably a bit beyond me right now. I wonder if I can buy more fabric if I mess one (or 12) up?!

Your lap zipper looks great! Your mystery blocks sound like a fun project.

Yep, I agree, zippers are "far too scarey" to quote my 3 yo DGS. As for the BOMs, from what I can see on your blog, they won't be too much for you at all. Go for it girl.

I'm sure you will do fine with the BOM's. (I've also wondered if there is the option to buy more fabric if you mess up the fabric in a kit like that.)

Oh, I've never put in a zipper like this. Maybe I should take a class!!

I've always been afraid of zippers, too, and I've sewn them for over 40 years - does it ever get better??
I was in a FQS Mystery BOM - my iron leaked oil on one of the blocks, I emailed Kimberley to buy more fabric and she said they keep extra just for things like that - didn't even charge me! How nice!
Cheers!

Yes zipper insertion is scary, but once you have that technique mastered,it is like having a secret, talent :)

Rachel's ice dance dresses required zippers inserted in the weirdest spots and in 4 - way stretch fabrics. Thank goodness we had an excellent Russian seamstress who was fearless, because I was petrified of ever attempting a costume,

I need a class too - I've never done a lap zipper before.

It's funny, I don't do lots of zippers on little girl dresses. I have done lots and lots in all the years i've been sewing though. Yours looks great!

Oh, I am sure she will sell you all the fabric you need, lol. BOM's are fun to participate in. Good luck with your zippers, looks like you are on the way to expertise.

Great job on the zipper! I am also terrified of them, I have never made one like the one you showed. I know you are going to enjoy the BOM. They are so fun.
