Inspiration and a Finish

Yesterday my LQS, Olde Green Cupboard, had their Sneak Peek t0 show their customers what classes they're going to have this next quarter. The Sneak Peeks are always so well attended that you need to get there when they open in order to have a place to sit. We get to hear about the projects and see samples. It's a good time! After I left, I felt inspired (which has been lacking lately). After not taking any classes last quarter, I'm certain I'm going to sign up for something this quarter. Since it's summer, they also have some quick project type classes - which are right up my alley right now. I need to get my sewing mojo back!
The lady on the left in the picture above is Faye - she is probably my favorite person to take classes from. She knows so much and loves to share it! The lady on the right is Gloria, the owner, who is the nicest person and so very funny. Most of Faye's classes are during the day this time around so I'm going to be trying out some new teachers. One day, I won't have to worry about showing up at work but in the meantime, I can only take classes at night. I am playing the lottery though to see if I can turn that around!
This class had 2 samples to view. What a huge difference fabric choices make!

I also finished my nieces bolero. Well, it needs to be blocked and the buttons sewn on but it my world, this still qualifies as a finished project because the ends are woven in. I hate that part! This was still a quick knit even though I had to knit the body twice as I didn't follow the pattern correctly.

Pattern: Knitting Pure and Simple Children's Neck Down Bolero #275
Ravelry Link for more photos!
Yarn: Lorna's Laces Shepherds Worsted in Purple Club and Grapevine
Needles: US 8 and Addi 9

what a cute little bolero. our quilt shops don't hold events like that about classes, what a fun idea, maybe i'll mention it to one of the local owners i know well, it might just bring in more business and make a fun day for all.

That bolero is just too cute! Love the colors. Hope your niece loves it too. (Of course she will, since her Aunt Jackie made it!)

That top photo...the t-square (or whatever they call it), I taught a class, when I lived in VA, on how to do that. SUPER simple!

The bolero turned out so cute! Love the colors and the ribbing color choice is perfect. Those quilts are very pretty. I will be looking forward to seeing what you make this summer.

I know several little grand daughters that would love one of those boleros...very cute;) What a clever idea your local quilt shop has...to have a preview of what will be taught in their classes. I bet they get a lot more people to sign up because of it.

Jackie - first - THANKS! for the big hug - It's good to have friends who care.

Isn't the OGC fun! We were there all afternoon yesterday for our rug guild meeting - small group of 11 but we had a lovely lunch provided by our hostesses in the guild and our friend Jill who works there opened the register and let us make a few purchases.

Your little LL bolero is darling - Don't you just love that Shepherds Worsted - I think it is just smashing! Take care - mel

What beautiful inspiration from your LQS and the bolero for your niece is wonderful! (I count my knitting projects as finished as soon as they are off the needles too!)

Its great to have a favorite teacher who works in a LQS with a fabulous owner. Makes it all feel so good.

I love your niece's bolero and have few baby girls in my circle that would enjoy having one. Thanks for the inspiration.

Your LQS sure sounds like a fantastic place, Jackie! I've heard this from others in your area as well - it's great to have a shop like that to help - especially when you're just starting out!
Your niece is going to love her Bolero - I think I want one, too!!
Cheers!

Hi Jackie,
My friend and I were just talking about the "Lucky Stars" pattern being our favorite pattern for gift quilts. I have made it 3 times, and I just bought the background fabric today to make a quilt for my daughter. I enjoy reading your blog
