Knitting Projects Visit the Grand Canyon

One day while we were on vacation, we visited the Grand Canyon. I've never been "out west" at all (rarely have been west of the Mississippi River) so this was all new to me. Here is my first glimpse of the Grand Canyon as we were walking up to the South Rim. I was not prepared for just how big it really is.
G & I - right after the picture above.
G is waaay to close to the edge in the picture below. He's about 1 step from a quick trip to the bottom of the canyon. There really aren't any barriers in most places. I wonder how many vistors they have "lost".

See that backpack? Guess what's in it? Yes, G hauled 2 knitting WIPs so I could take pics of them there! Who doesn't love a man who supports fiber habits? And who wasn't embarrassed at all when people were staring at me taking photos of knitting? He even visited 4 shops with me this trip (2 yarn, 2 quilting) and chatted with the shop owners or sat in the man chair as I shopped. Not one complaint out of him. I think I'll keep him!
We talked to a teacher who was taking a picture of her Flat Stanley. She is a 5th grade teacher and a 2nd grade teacher gave her a Flat Stanley to take on her travels with her. The kids make them and then send them to relatives who take pictures of where Flat Stanley has been/visited. The kids then learn all about geography by tracking where Stanley has gone What a fantastic idea! I almost asked her to have her friend send me one. I love stuff like that!
Here's Ava's sweater at the Grand Canyon.
And here is my current sock project.
I'll leave you with a few landscape pics. One thing about visiting here is that every time you walk a bit you see an entirely different scene even though you think you've seen it all. It's truly wonderful and I feel very fortunate to have been able to visit.

Great pictures, Jackie! I really enjoyed the part about G carrying along your knitting work. What a sweetheart. And how special to take pictures of your projects there.

Were you at the South Rim? You're photos are great. Was one of the yarn shops Unravel on Route 66 in Flagstaff?

We spent a half hour at the Grand Canyon once! Yes one half hour. My hubby is a terrible traveler. All he wants to do is "make time" He gets you in the car and won't let you out. So seeing the canyon through your eyes was better than in person. Our kids live in Florida (Patrick Air Force Base) so we get back that way once in a while. We're in Washington State. I'm glad you had a good trip.

Thanks for the photos! I spent 3 months on the South Rim, summer of '77. It hasn't changed a bit.

Ava's sweater is so cute! The heels on your socks look great!

Jackie - looks like your trip out west was a huge success!!! You are a lucky woman to have such a supportive husband when it comes to your quilting and knitting adventures! I love the flat Stanley - but your knitting photos are even better - what better scenery to put behind them! Welcome home!
Cheers!

I love your pictures of the Grand Canyon! Makes me miss it. My hubby and I hiked down 1.5 miles about 12 years ago. Going down was easy, but coming up....so not easy...lol
